I have 2 Chase accounts that have gone to outside CAs. The one I've had contact with which was not a positive experience, the other I've got the required letter from notifying me they have debt, i can send for validation etc....
My question is, - I have a friend who is a lawyer who is willing to help me with the CA to try to set up a payment plan I can afford. Has anyone in the past used an attorney to help them and if so what was the experience like? Was it a positive outcome? I'm not looking to get out of the debt- just to make payments that I can afford and hopefully avoid a lawsuit/judgement.

I would say ideally yes, if you have access to an Attorney by all means use his services. I am currently dealing with a chase account which has went into collections with Cache, and now they want me to settle this account through an Arbitration forum, I really don't want to go through an arbitration forum, as I have read it is very biased. So, if there is any possible way I could have avoided it through the services of an Attorney, I would have definitely chosen that, over this madness. Others will be along to advise you of their experiences so hang tight.

When you have a friend, who is ready to help you, I'll say, grab it with both hands. The collection agencies can often become a pain in the neck to deal with when it comes to sketch a repayment plan with them. An attorney's help will certainly give you an edge over. Best of luck!!
