The debt collector in different state can serve me? If so, which state? theirs or mine?

Hi and welocme to the site. Im sorry, I am not sure what you are asking. What state are you from debt and law? Who is the debt collector and what state did this notice, if any come from? Lets start with that.

The collector is in California and I live in New York. I used to live in California.

Depending on the contract you can be served in either your state of residence or state where contract was commenced.Most courts would rather state of residence.
