Disputing items on my credit report?

I was told by the guy who sold me my truck that since my credit was so bad, I should just dispute EVERYTHING on my credit report that was negative. His claim was "what's the worst thing that could happen? They say no? It doesn't make your score any worse". Is this true? Should I take this guy's advice?

There is no harm in disputing an item if you are not sure about it. The credit bureau will verify it with the company reporting the item. If your dispute is found correct, they will update the file and send you a free copy.

He is right in that it can't hurt your score. Also, the worst is they say it's yours. And then you are in no better position than before. AND if something does get deleted, then awesome. You just have to decide if it is ethical to dispute everything or just legitimate negative information on your credit report. We had an interesting discussion on one of the other forums about disputing items and is it ethical. Go and read those for some insight. It's on the forum Dealing with collection agencies and the topic is SOL under my name. good luck

After my Ex "Creative Financing" and forcing to go BK....Ok, my friends thought I was OCD, but in 10 months after the BK I went from a score of 415 to high 500-610. I had literally a total of all 3 credit agencies.....32 things removed.
t's their responsiability to prove the disputed account is accurate, not yours and With so many companies buying and selling debts, things get lost. Remember, it takes time and you have to be persistent. Also, only dispute at the most 6 items at a time and requesting credit lowers your score.
Another thing you can do is if you have a relative or friend that has good credit with a long standing credit card. Ask them to put you on as a signer, but make sure when the new card comes you had it back to your friend doing the favor. This solution is oly to increase your score, NOT to get a credit card....Just a couple ideas....

I actually went online and disputed all of my stuff at once, because most of that was very old, and most other stuff was not even recognized.

So you went from a very low score to a high one. You went BK as well, am I reading right?
