So I went to my mailbox, and lo-and behold there was a packet with "Chex Systems" on it. I opened it up, and then I remembered that I had submitted a form online requesting the information (my file). So I went through it and WOW it's scary. Theres about 8 banks that list me, some for small overdrafts ($87.00) and a few bibgger ones. So now I don't know what I should do. Should I call up the banks, get amounts owed, and make arrangements? Or should I just call Chex Systems? Also, I see that there were about 6 inquiries with IBC (bank) within a 3 day period, all of which I didnt do. Would I dispute things with them just like a credit report? Thanks guys! You've been great!

All banks are linked through the chexsystem as far as I know. If the balance is still owed, you may not find anyone willing to open an account for you until it's paid off. I believe you will be in Chexsystem for five years, then your name will be removed.

If you want to dispute any item with the chexsystem, call their toll free number and request investigation.

Could you explain a little more, so I can understand? Are you saying that these were checks that your bank did not pay and were returned?

Ashley, I don't think anyone will shoot you, sweetie. LOL Actually, the link will be a big help to those trying to straighten out their issues with bank accounts.

And to answer Lorri's question regarding how one gets reported to Chex Systems...it's usually for one of two reasons:

1. Your bank account showed numerous overdrafts over a period of time, and the bank closed it due to this problem. If, when the account was closed, it was in an overdraft status, and you did not pay it back to the bank in the time they allowed, it would be reported to Chex Systems, and you would not be able to open a new checking account without paying this off.

2. You may have written a check at a retailer using Chex Systems to trace NSF checks. If your check was returned by your bank to the retailer as NSF, and you didn't pay it, they would have reported it to Chex Systems, where it would remain on file until you paid it off.

Laverne - if your check is not honored by your bank due to your account being closed, the company presenting the check will most likely attempt to contact you first, to try and get you to pay for it. If this is a debt you are paying off, I would suggest making arrangments with them to get this paid off so you no longer need to worry about it.

I hope things are going better for you now that you've started to get a handle on those Payday Loans. Merry Christmas!

I'm compiling a list of banks that don't use chexsystems to verify new accounts . . . . They do exists, it just takes a ton of research . . . . If anyone needs a list of their state, please PM me . . . I'd post the whole thing, but it is WAY too long for all 50 states . . . .

I don't know about others, but I've found that US Bank, which is mostly on the west coast, will open an account for someone in chexsystems as long as you don't owe US Bank any money. I learned that recently when I had an account closed for overdrafts, and even though I'm in chexsystems, the bank gave me a regular checking and savings account, with debit cards and the whole works!

If you are seeking a new checking account, I would recommend a credit union. I opened one at my local credit union just yesterday, and they never checked Chex Systems or any other database - it took all of about 7 minutes to open the account.

I would like to get a Chexsystems report, but when I try to get one online it says that I have to be denied an acct within 60 days. I called the number also and the automated thing says the same thing. Is there anyway to get one without being denied an account?? I know that I am on there for a bank, but I have no way of finding out how much b/c the bank has merged with another and they can't find the files...???
