Did your old account get sent to Chexsystems or something? Usually that stays on your report for about 7 years, but some banks will allow you to open another one if you can show proof that it was taken care of.

That was me that posted about banks that don't use chexsystems . . . . If you PM me the state you live in I will send you back a list of banks that either use chexsystems but still allow you to open an account as long as it's paid, and banks that use credit reports, telecheck, or sometimes just good old id!

Depends on your bank. The bank that currently have does not use checksystems. HOwever, two other banks that I have do use checksystems and it does have an affect on whether you can open a checking account.

While I have a checking account, I would highly recommend that you open a savings account with the bank you are trying to open a checking account with. With a savings account, you can show that you have been in good faith long enough that they would recommend that you have a checking account.

As for Checksystems, most things stay on your checksystems report for five years. After that, they fall off. Even if you paid for the delinquent account, it still remains on your report. I tried to open an account with another bank and they told me that they would not because even though I had paid the delinquent account (from Chase Bank), it was still on my report for five years.
