I recently sent off via mail to have my credit reports sent to my home. I filled out the standard form to have all 3 bureaus send me a copy. Two of the reports arrived, but the 3rd report said that they couldn't identify me and want me to send them a copy of two types of identification. One is something with my SSN on it and the other with my address. Is this common? If it is, makes you wonder how they know to put certain things on my report in the first place.

It was Equifax. Ok, thanks for the info. I wanted to make sure that this actually happens.

There may be a typo on your credit report. They usually ask you identifying questions, and if you answer incorrectly they need further identification. When you do get your report, go through it completely to make sure that there is nothing incorrect.
On my Experian I had an incorrect previous address which is why they needed further ID from me.
