Okay I had a disputed item knocked off my credit report (experian to be exact) anyhow how long should it be before I see a reflection in my credit score? It was a small collection debt from probably a bad check in 2004 ($31) do you think it will even make a difference in my score? I got the email from Experian today and the negative implication of my report has dropped by one now but the score is the same .Thanks

The collection entry that was in error has dropped from your credit copy but you see no difference in your credit scores.
Credit scores are calculated based on the following factors.
- Payment History (35%)
- Amounts You Owe (30%)
- Length of Your Credit History (15%)
- Types of Credit Used (10%)
- New Credit (10%)
I assume the removal of the incorrect collection entry having a small amount was not that big to change your credit scores. But, it's still good because the negative information has gone down by one.

First remove as many bad things as you can.Next start adding 1-2 positive accounts about every 6 months.Make sure you qualify before applying because inquiries can hurt you too.Wash, rinse, repeat

Try calling Experian and make them aware that your scores didn't change after the negative item was removed from your report. There should have been some possible changes, unless they have done an error.
See the link below for some tips on improving credit scores. It will help more

whohooo, well I did not know I had to request a new report from Experian, anyhow my score went up to 586, just from that $31 and 1 inquiry falling off in Jan. Now I know 586 is a crappy number but its going up and maybe with the paid of credit card (I just did it 2 days ago) it will go over 600 by the end of March. Thanks for everyones responses!

My next question is what kind of credit card do I get and how can I know what kind of score the creditor would accept before having my CR pulled? I would like to get a VISA or MC that I can just charge my gas and then immediatly pay it off

Ask your banker for an appt. to sit down and speak with you. Give him a complete rundown on what you have(income, debts, and credit reports). If it looks like a unsecured card is not available, start with a secured credit card. Make payments on time and most companies will move you to unsecured after having that card for a little while.

good ole BOA, anyhow I was nosing around their website last night checking out the pre-paid credit cards and decided to chat with an online helped. Even with a $300 deposit for a pre-paid card they still check your credit ( guess I am not illegal enough for them). So I am going to put getting new credit until the end of the year, see how high I can get my score and also come fall I will be "cleaing" up the other credit reports also, right now I am concentrating on Experian but will have free reports from the other two come late Fall.
