You'll have an easier time getting it marked as a paid collection which is just as bad as having an unpaid collection on your report.

Default Help with Credit Repair

I wanted to add a couple of things to your credit repair tips! There are several choices to choose from when disputing your credit reports. If you choose from one of the credit bureaus choices listed on their site or on their form, then you may get caught in their trap. Beware! They want to admit a mistake on that particular item. Dispute the item to either correct it or delete it. It doesn't matter what they think, they have to re-investigate it by federal law, the Fair Credit Reporting Act within 30 days. They should respond to you with an updated credit report with the results. If you do not get your requested result, then wait 70 days and do it again until desired response is received. It does not matter if you certify mail it or regular mail it. I have 24 years of experience in credit repair, and I can tell you it doesn't really matter how you mail it, they should respond to you as long as you are sending them proper copies of your ID's - driver's license, social security card and a copy of your current utility bill. What do you know about those people that you pay to clear the negative things from your credit report.

do it yourself ... it is free and just takes a bit of time every month to monitor, dispute, write letters, call etc.

My husband and I are hoping to buy a house soon (within 6 months if possible). Yet, on my credit there are debts that I never had, for example it shows a credit card debt, but I have never had a credit card in my possession. I disputed it and it says it has been verified and updated. What does that mean and how can I have it removed? also it shows a debt for BMG music services but I have never ordered anything from there. How do I get that removed? My husband has several medical bills on his report that are for his now ex-wife. How do we go about disputing those? as she had told him she paid cash for the services and was not on his insurance but listed him as responsible party? Our scores are almost high enough for our lender. But need to be a bit higher in order to get the loan. Are there any "quick" fixes that take less than 6 months? In other words is there any way to increase our scores within 6 months? We both have more positives than negatives on our accounts. Also is it a good idea to send PFD letters to negative reflecting debts? Even if you are not aware of the debt to begin with?

Sorry if I asked so many questions. We just now got our credit reports for the first time ever and are not sure what to do.

I have about 7 or 8 medical bills on my Credit report, they are all between $50 and $100. I was told that if I pay them off my score would be much higher. I was wondering how much these medical bills really affect my credit report.

Default Credit reports hint!

Yes it is true you are only allowed one annual credit report a year but there are three different agencys to request them from so really you can request a credit score from each one and it will not hurt your score!

  1. Ordering Your Credit Report
  2. It is important that you have copies of your credit report so that you have a clear picture from the start who you owe and how much you owe. This information allows you to set a game plan for fixing credit with a desired goal in mind. Most debt does not occur overnight, so what you need is a document that details the history of your debt: your credit report lists all of your accounts, the payment history, and what needs to be paid. Your credit report may also contain erroneous information that you will need to have removed.Reviewing Your Credit Report and Disputing Erroneous Information
  3. Before you start paying off old debt, dispute any incorrect information on your credit report. You can either dispute this misinformation on the credit report you received from the credit bureaus or you can write a letter directly to the credit bureaus listing in complete detail the information you are disputing with proof of your dispute. Keep a copy of all the information you provide to the credit bureaus. When you send it in, send it by certified mail, return receipt so that you can track when it was received and who signed for it.Creditor Contact
  4. If a creditor has been contacting you about an old debt, locate it on your credit report and decide how you want to handle it. If this is a debt that you can settle, then consider contacting the creditor and explaining your situation. Creditors are there to work with you if you keep the lines of communication open. They can offer you a workout loan depending on your situation. If you are not dealing with creditor calls, then develop a plan for paying off your bills and old debt.Designing a Payoff Plan
  5. Once you have reviewed and begun disputing erroneous information as well as credit inquiries that you did not authorize, make a chart of all of your outstanding credit card bills or revolving loan accounts, which include your automobile and place of dwelling if you own. At the bottom of your chart, list the account that has the lowest balance or payment and then go up the page listing the next lowest until you get to the top. Pay off the smallest debt first in order to prove to yourself that you can fix your credit and pay off bills. For the next-smallest debt, apply the money that you used to pay off the first bill towards the second one each month until it is paid off. Continue this pattern until all bills are paid off.Keeping Records
  6. When you are fixing your credit, it important that you keep records of all conversations, settlements, and any bills you paid off for a minimum of 10 years. This way if any collectors contact you for a bill that was previously settled, you can send them a letter with a copy of your proof, mailing a copy to the local Attorney General's office.
