on a finance's account. Can that boost your score? Is it reported to the bureaus?

It's funny because she had bad credit and then did a debt consolidation program which really killed her score, but for the past 2 years, she gets approved for everything. She has two car leases in her name and her score is mid 600's. I'm hoping this could help me.

A friend of mine told me that if you are listed as an authorized user on someone's account (that has good credit), it will help you & your score. True, volley???

A joint account will help your score, but AU does not help anymore; the change happened a little earlier this year. AU's are still reported to the bureaus, but they do not factor into the FICO.

That is one of the best ways to help your credit. But stay away form a debt consolidation company. The lenders look at it as almost as a bankruptcy.

Yup I agree with Morningstar. FICO credit-scoring formula is ignoring all references to authorized user accounts while calculating the score.

One of the accounts on which I was an authorized user dropped my FICO score by over 100 points in one month. I know it won't be hard to remove from my credit report, but I'm not sure if the score will bounce back as easily. That's the part that really ticks me off. I've spent the last 3 years trying to raise it.

Are you sure that you don't actually have a joint account guest2. I know for certain that I am an AU on my wifes credit card with Cap One and she is an AU on my HSBC credit card but they do not show on our credit bureaus. Its been that way for three years now. If they have asked you for your SS# then more than likely they might've just changed it to a joint account. You should check that out.
