Sub: Removing Inquiries on Report
Replied on 01-19-2012, 03:12 PM

As a part of my credit report clean-up process, I've come across a number of inquiries on my report. A couple might be legit, but most are not. I think they somehow mixed my brother's credit history with mine last year. I've gotten a lot of this straightened out, but not the inquiries.

In my experience so far, the credit reporting agencies do not investigate disputed inquiries. I've tried multiple times, and they just refer me back to the creditor that inquired along with a contact address.

I've written these creditors at these addresses and requested the inquiries to be removed as they were unauthorized. Only one has complied, and all others have been non-responsive.

I've written follow-up letters threatening that I would report them to my state attorney general and investigate all legal remedies available to me. But still no response or compliance.

This process has taken so long that several have already fallen off my credit report, since they only stay for 2 years. The process is really stacked against the consumer here.

So what is the next step? Do I really need to file a complaint with the attorney general or a lawsuit in Federal Court? Seems like a lot of work and engery, when I just want it off my credit report.

Anyone have a successful strategy to get the inquires off their credit report?

I am going through a similar problem. Why don't the creditors give a reply to my letters? I can't understand. I will wait for a few days more. Thereafter, I will report it to the SAG. It seems that I don't have any other choice.

I guess I will have to file the complaint with the state attorney general. It's just a shame that the system is set up this way. I shouldn't be asked to try to prove a negative. If I've never done any business with these creditors that are placing inquiries on my credit report, I shouldn't have to prove that is the case. That's impossible. Nor should the burden be on me to make them give me proof to provide to the CRA's to get these removed.

There's a lot of things wrong with this country, and allowing credit agencies and creditors to run amuck is near the top of the list.
