Debt Validation Letter question

Message Author

I am sending our my Debt Validation letters tonight. Many of these accounts were open when I lived at my previous address. I am sending out DV letters to every account listed on my current credit report.

1. Because the credit report does not list the full account number, only partial (for example, 1234xxxx); should I put my Social Security number on the letter, to help them identify me? Or, should I not give them that help?

I was wondering this because I was wondering how they would figure out who I am. On the top of the letter in the reference line I am putting the account number as listed on the credit report. But since it's not the full account number, and the address on my letter is my new address and not the one they may have on file, I was curious what to do.

So, should I give them my social security number? Should I give them my old address, and tell them I have moved and for them to use my new address?

Thanks!

I would not give out my SS# to anyone. I am surethat they can find you using your name. Well if you want them to send you a validation of the debt, you will need to give them your new address. I am sure they will be able to figure out that you have moved. You said that you were sending letters to everyone on your credit report. I am assuming they are all trying to collect from you. If you have not heard from any of the accounts do not open a can of worms

If I want them off my credit report, I need to contact them; don't I?[/quote]

Yes, but are they trying to collect from you, or are they just old things that were paid late.

They wont come off your report even if you make arrangements with them. They have reported you for being late, or not paying. They will stay on for a while I think

Unless they ignore my validation request. If they do ignore, I can get it off.

Reason I am asking is I had one account that has obviously been resold quite a few times, and each time it has been resold it earned a new entry on my credit report.

Are the old CA's still listed on ur report? If so, dispute them to get them off!
Good Luck,

Exactly what I thought, and what I am trying to do. kashzan's replies confused me a bit.

How long do you have to wait for an answer regarding your request for a validation of a debt?
