Accurate credit reporting...

Just a question for those that know about credit reporting. I received a credit report from Experian recently and noticed that Providian had sold my account to Unifund. I filed bankruptcy in 2004 they sold my account in late 2003. They did not notify me and I never received a letter from Unifund. Both of these companies are on my credit report. Providian says account closed/sold and Unifund says account in collections as of June 2007. So they have been updating it. I disputed it with Experian and they investigated and the only thing that changed is Unifund updated the report as in collections 01/2008.
My question is if this account was in my bankruptcy..and it was discharged how can they keep updated as in collections? I know my credit report is not good because of BK..but somehow this does not seem right. And by the way the account number is the same for Providian and Unifund. I have asked this question to my attorney and he hasn't responded yet.

Discharged debt is illegal to collect or report as it is a violation of the bankruptcy code. let your attorney make them aware of this and sue if they don't remove.

Another question...kind of odd...but maybe someone can
shed some light. After my report to Experian I wrote to Unifund. I received a letter from them this morning saying my account had been paid in full for an amount over 3 grand. Do you think they sold this account to some debt junk buyer? I did not send any money to them...I'm thinking it could be a PIF letter to me just to relieve them of possible inacuate credit reporting??? Any thoughts...thanks!

I think they are trying to cover their butts from the ramifications of trying to collect a debt that was included in a bankruptcy. I have never heard of a debt marked PIF as a result of it switching hands.

LoneGunman...I believe that too and my lawyer agreed. Unifund also stated they would contact all the credit bureaus and have this account removed. The letter was dated January 17, 2008. So far there has been no change on my reports. I will give them maybe a week or so..if it's still there..I will contact my lawyer again and see what else can be done. With the bankrupcy still there this looks like I have a open collection account and makes my credit report look even worse if that's possible.
