what happens when it comes of the credit report

I am disputing several things on my credit report. One of them is a debt to Pentagroup Financial for a Nextel bill. The amount owing I believe is outrageous. I plan on sending a debt validation letter to Pentagroup but I started with my credit reports. It came off of my experian report. So what does that mean? Experian sent Pentagroup information to validate the debt. Does that mean they couldn't and the debt is not valid? I also noticed on my credit report that Pentagroup pulled my credit on Oct 1 2006 which was prior to my request to experian. Does this mean they are getting ready to take some kind of action?

Have you checked the copies of other bureaus i.e. Transunion and Equifax? You need to compare this item on the other reports.

Contact Pentagroup Financial for the details of the debt. They should be able to give you the info if their is a purpose of reporting in your file in the future. Besides, your letter sent to the company will prove you're taking care of the matter. Even if they file a case, there should be a legitimate purpose and the facts should be given to you in writing.

Yes, they are on all 3 of my reports. I disputed all of them. Experian came back within 2 weeks which I thought was too quick.

If one credit bureau has removed the item, it makes me feel that the other two will also do the same thing. Get your debt validated by them so that you come to know the actual amount owed.

Are you sending the letters through certified mail with return receipt requested? Doing this, you will prove you're taking care of it and they got your letter. A response with the requested info must be mailed back.

I disputed the items from TU and Experian online. I heard that sending them a letter is better than through the website. I'm not sure which is better but it seemed more convenient to do it online plus I printed off the dispute. Anything I send to Pentagroup or any other collections I send certified mail. Does that mean the debt is no longer valid when it comes off the credit report?

I assume Pentagroup does not have your debt because of which they cannot hit your CR. They cannot enter something for which they are not authorized. This may be the reason of the entry removed. If they insert anything later, there should be a legit purpose. Send the debt validation anyway because you'll figure out whether you need to deal with them or not. You will also be confirmed about them if they put something in your CR after validating the debt.

I also had 2 things on my CR with Experian. One was with NCO and the other was with a company called ER SOLUTIONS. I disputed both of them and they came back and said that they were to be deleted. How long will this take for them to come off and will my score go up any b/c these were collection accounts???

You will usually see the effects within one month. The updated credit report will be sent to your mailing address free of cost.

Credit scores will go up after the incorrect negative items are taken off. Collection entries hurt the scores a lot. When they are off, your credit will be viewed nicely.

I don't know how long it will take to come off your credit report. I disputed items on experian and two of them were off within 2 weeks one of them being Pentagroup. I just noticed that it is not on my Transunion report either. So that was fast. When you dispute items on your credit report online, you get to access it for free for 30 days. Then you will get to access after their investigations are complete to see any changes.

Well the way I undestand it, they have to get back to you within 30 days, that's the law. If they don't then the negative information has to be removed. Like Trenity said above, they will send you the results with an updated credit report. This doesn't mean though that the collection agency won't report it again if they try to collect or sell it off to another collection agency who tries to collect. Although legally they can not report to the credit bureaus unless it is a valid debt. At least I'm fairly certain they can't.
