Could someone please tell me what the first few steps that I should take to repair my credit report?

First thing I would do is print out your credit reports from all three bureaus. Review each one carefully and make sure all of the accounts are actually yours and are up to date. It's important to know the current statuses of your accounts so that you can be sure they are being reported correctly.
That's step number 1
