Annual Credit Report Scam:
Not sure where to post this, so a Moderator can move it if needed. Has anyone ever request the free annual credit report on www(dot)annualcreditreport.com? Now I've been employed for a month, I going to start working on paying off some of my outstanding debts. This is the second year I have used it and have had problems getting my Equifax report both times. I'm not able to do it online and when I call Equifax (I, of course, get someone in India), they try telling me I have already requested it and I will now have to pay for one. I just about shouted at the guy today because he couldn't understand what I was saying, and I was confusing him by going off his script, and all he could do was keep telling me I have to pay for one. I tried explaining to him it's probably showing I requested it; however, I never received it so there's an error. I think my cat would have understood me better, when I explained it to him, than the guy I was talking to! If not, at least he would have purred some for me! I got the other two CR's with no problems; Equifax is the only one giving me grief. The conspiracy theorist in me, makes me think Equifax does this on purpose so they can get unsuspecting people to pay for what they are required to provide for free. Anyone else have any thoughts on this, or encountered anything similar? The upside to this, if there is one, is that my other two credit reports aren't nearly as trashed as I thought they would be. I don't have one CA reporting anything on it; only the OC's. How in the heck did that happen? I thought sure I'd see an entry on them from Il-Legal Mediation Mal-Practice and have to sue them again, only this time for FCRA violations. I guess my DV letters were received and understood after all! __________________

I have to deal with CSC and not EQ unfortunately but, from what I have read, if you get routed to India, immediately ask to be transferred to a domestic English speaking human on the North American Continent. Don't accept anything less. I added the date I pulled my reports last year into my Outlook and added the corresponding date into the next year to remind me when to pull. Leap year, so it might be off a day or so. Just sent you a PM with some additional info

I have had problems with Equifax also and have requested it in writing without paying for it. For some reason the annualcreditreport.com website tells you that you have already received the free report when in fact you have not. You just need to unfortunately write them and use snail mail.
Good luck |

Annual Credit Report Scam:
Ron, High had the a similar problem, it stated that it was unable to provide me with a copy on-line. This has been happening for about the last year. So I found a number to call and got customer service, I explained what had happened and they sent me out a copy of my report and I had them transfer me to tech support to see what is the problem. Tech support said it appears that the info that Annual Credit Report send with the request causes a verification error. She went ahead and made a request and gave me the report number and it allowed me to access it on-line. This is a new problem which makes me think that Equifax changed their software and it doesn't conform with the website. |

The number I call to reach Equifax Customer Service is (888) 265-8807. Anyone else have anything different to call for "real, live" help?

QUOTE FROM ABOVE
"The conspiracy theorist in me, makes me think Equifax does this on purpose so they can get unsuspecting people to pay for what they are required to provide for free." LET'S SEE .... 1. THEY PROVIDE "INFORMATION" THAT DENIES YOU AN ACCOUNT SOMEWHERE. 2. THEY CHARGE YOU 15 BUCKS TO SEE YOU REPORT OR WHY YOU WERE REFUSED... DUH!!!! CONFLICT OF INTEREST??? I THINK SO |

I've used the real site and never had problems getting my Equifax report. If the website is giving errors, I would take screen shots as evidence that it's not giving it to you. Contact support for the website and see what they say. If no help there, then I'd write a letter to Equifax and include the screen shots. If they still refuse, then I'd file complaint with the FTC.

?? AnnualCreditReport was ordered by the FTC and is run by the 3 CRAs. It takes you to "their own website" one by one and only acts as a portal.
If you are not able to view your report, it is likely because you did not answer an identifying question correctly. Some of them are tricky, but they are there to prove it is actually *you* and not someone else trying to get your info. Send a request for your free report via postal mail, Certified Mail, Return Receipt requested. Include a copy of your Driver's License & Social Security card. You should get it then no problem. |

I've only gotten my free credit reports twice, had no trouble with Experian or TransUnion, but both times Equifax claims they can't find my credit report when I go through the Annual Credit Report web site, but they have no problem finding it when I offer to pay for it on their own web site USING THE EXACT SAME INFO I supplied on the Annual Credit Report web site. What a scam ! So once again I'm confronted with jumping through hoops to get my report from them for free, or paying for it on Equifax's web site. Last time I paid, this time I'm really really pissed and I'm going to pursue a solution. Maybe it's time for me to contact my newspaper ...

I'm glad to see (lack of a better word, here..) that I'm not the only one who is having trouble getting ALL 3 reports. Several times, with me (as well), the site will say 'I already received my CR VIA mail'..which I know I din't. Can anyone tell me..is there any one of the 3 CR's that are used MOST frequent?

I tried pulling all 3 at annualcreditreport. I got my experian and TU without any problems. Equifax claims I have some sort of security freeze on mine and so I had to snail mail a request. It's still pending. I tried pulling the hubby and got his on equifax without a problem...I wonder why??
