Ok, long story short, there is a negative credit remark from Imagine on my credit report. I disputed it and now they hit my credit report with a hard inquiry. Can they do that?? If not what steps can I take to have them removed??

I understand that, but they pulled my credit report recently for no reason. I didn't apply for credit with them.

It seems to me that their inquiry should show in the section that doesn't affect your credit rating, but I'm not completely sure . . .

I thought the section that does affect your credit was for cases where you actually applied for credit . . .

this brings up a point that I was wondering about ... a couple of years ago I was close to going into foreclosure, which thankfully I was able to avoid by paying back everything, plus fees, and now I'm okay. But I noticed on my report that there were several credit inquiries from my current lender during that time frame ... can anyone explain why my reports should be dinged by existing creditors in that way?

They should only show as soft inquiries. Did they have a AR (account review) notation? If they were hard inquiries, contact the lender and request they be re-classed as soft inquiries.
