Hi everyone. I am currently seeking ways to improve my credit score. When I pulled it a couple of weeks ago it was 526. I want to increase it to at least 700. I know it will take time, but I don't know exactly where to start. Any suggestions?

Do you have any accounts that are in collections or are in default? That brings down a score very quickly. Also check your credit report to make sure all the accounts are accurated listed and in your name. If your credit cards are maxed out or nearly maxed out, you should work towards paying the balances down to about 30% of what your card's limit is. Credit scores are 30% based on your payment history...so pay on time, and are 30% based on length of history, so the longer you have an account in good standing, the more it helps. It will take a while for your credit score to move to 700; it is not an overnight process.

Thanks for the advice. I do have some accounts that have been charged off. None are currently in collections. I want to start paying the ones that have been charged off but they all seem to want lump sums of money. I don't have the amounts that they want, so I am just working on saving. I plan to pay one at a time. I have 2 credit cards that are almost maxed out. I will work first on getting those balances down first and then work on making settlements with other companies. I feel awful because I once had A+ credit. Now I can't even get a loan for $1000 in my name. Hopefully that will change soon.

Follow the tips mentioned here in improving your scores. Calculate total debts you have listed in your credit copy. You need to make payment arrangements with your creditors and get them paid. Your scores will go up after each creditor reports your account as paid to the bureaus.

Hi Eleroo
You have got a great plan. However, if you want you can even contact a debt settlement company. I seriously hope that you get back your A+ rating.
