I changed by bank account a couple of months ago and made an online payment to Capital One a few days prior to it being 30 days late. Unfortunately, I forgot to update my banking information online and they never received the payment. Now it's been reported as 30 days late. I made a huge payment which included the fees and it has cleared so now I am current. Will this one 30 day late hurt my credit score? We are trying to buy a house and can't afford to let the score drop any. I screwed up and now I am paying for it. I kept waiting for the payment to clear and couldn't figure out why. Duh. I am so mad at myself for this. I never got any notice from Capitol One until a couple of days ago that there was a problem. I actually figured it my mistake on my own. My online statement kept showing the payment posted but nothing was ever updated and then I get the online statement stating the payment was returned.

It will but not by much if everything else is positive. Things happen.

I don't know how easy it is to work with Capital One, but maybe you could contact them and ask them to retract the report as a courtesy. It sounds like you have a good standing account with them.

I would think that one thing wouldn't hurt too bad..Are you sure that they even reported it?

Yes I know they reported it. I have Credit Check monitoring service that tells me when something changes. It was reproted on Experian. Damn. I wonder how long it will take for credit score to change? I monitor that, too, so I will know if it does.
