Yeah I am not Happy. My credit report shows $232.00. I had just gotten caught up with my bills. I did not even owe this much I owed less than $100.00 to BMG music. I did not even get a bill that this would be on my credit. I plan on paying because I cannot have my credit ruined.

NCS seems to be a scam
I have been trying to get my score to improve. I requested my credit report and saw that NCS repoted a past due balance of 244.00. I then tried to dispute because I do not recall having an account with BMG. Experian sent the results back stating that the account will remain. NCS never sent me a bill. Since I made the dispute they have been sending me statements at my new address and calling me. I have always kept an up-to-date address on file with the credit bureaus. Now all of a sudden they can contact me, it seems strange.

don't bother filing a report withe the BBB. It won't do you any good. I didn't even live at the location at the time of these alleged purchases. They have not been able to provide me with a customer agreement or contract. All they say is that the debt belongs to me. Which it does not. I filed a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission and the NYS Attorney General. This was just done last week so I am still waiting to hear from the AG's office.

NCS = dirty
NCS is after me for an invalid debt. They have trashed my credit while refusing to send me any validation of the debt. Somehow they came up with some weird way to validate it with Experian (even though it is totally invalid), but won't send their alleged "proof" to me. Ah, well. I'll be seeing my lawyer tomorrow and looking into a lawsuit. I do not owe the debt.

BMG has not just hit you all in OK state. I live in south Texas and they have added that lovely little surprise to my credit report. I had no idea it was there till I recently looked at my credit report. I emailed them and found "no record" of my name or account. Then, today...days later, I receive an email telling me to contact Capital Assistance Group since they have the account now. They stated the previous emails were an error and and oversight. Never did they mentioned when I supposedly order merchandise from them or anything.

File a dispute with the credit reporting agencies. Specify that you *never* ordered anything from BMG so you believe it is fraudulent.
Also, respond to that email and demand proof that you ordered anything. |

NCS / BMG Music
July 13, 2009. Applied for a car loan only to discover the same problem - a 225.00 'deliquent' bill in collections by NCS. I spoke with the gentleman at NCS who says this was first reported in 2003. Well funny that it just shows up on my credit reports in 2009! I check my reports yearly! Funny it didnt show up in 2000 when I applied for my car loan, neither in 2002 with my student loans or in 2008 with my credit card loan.
I havent done business with BMG since 1999 because of MP3s. Since they went out of business, it looks as if they just sent anyone and everyone to collections if you ever accepted their offer of free cd's. It is also weird to see that everyone seems to be getting notified of this at the same time. Be sure any communication you send to NCS is is writing. Also, send all mail to them certified mail, return receipt requested. This will stand up in court. They have to sign for the letter and cannot say they did not receive it. |

BMG/Columbia House scam?
it seems many of us got a report from experian, saying general collection agency, representing bmg/columbia house, was alleging we owed money to bmg...in my case, $176 on an original bill of $23. i too have not been a member of bmg for over 15 years, and was never billed for the alleged $23. this has never appeared on my credit report prior to 2009, either. is any action being taken by anyone to halt this process so our credit isn't damaged?

Everybody should go to the website for the National Association of Consumer Advocates (NACA), naca - dot- NET to find an attorney in their area who handles cases against debt collectors. NCS has likely violated both the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (the federal law that regulates the debt collection industry) and the Fair Credit Reporting Act (the federal law that regulates the credit bureaus and companies like NCS who report accounts to the credit bureaus). Stop whatever else you are doing and just call a NACA lawyer. Almost all consumer law attorneys will take these cases with no money up front.
If you're going to write to NCA and/or the credit bureaus, always send letters certified with a return receipt. I'm a lawyer in Connecticut who handles these types of cases. Call a lawyer in your state! |
