I closed this account that they are requesting payment for and I had a print out of the final bill and bank statements to prove that I paid them. I will get to the bottom of this. Here is a lesson to be learned: Keep all bank statements and carbons on your checks as far back as seven years. SO that if this kind of thing arrises you can go back and take account of it all. Alot of trouble I know. But this is the only true resolution that works for sure. Always close unwanted accounts and ask for proof that the account has been closed. Although when you go to prove this be aware that other information can be collected on you as the same time that you are providing proof. And that is all that they really want for when a company goes under the only thing is that they want is a tax break. If you don't pay them they can write it off on their taxes.
Thanks to this information you provided to me today I have a legitimate cause to have this removed from my account.
Thanks For the info!

same here , same thing everyone else has got except i was told that i could go ahead and contact bmg and that they didnt have the bmg account number or contact information for them, i was told that the cds were paid for but the charge is for breach of contract or something, i said well why is it they waited 5 years to tell me that i owed a debt to them, and i got the response of they have 7 years to collect the debt, i said ok, so i need the account number and contact information to call and talk to someone at bmg, and he said that he had niether, and that i could track down a number and call them but more than likely that they would send me back to them and i was like no, ive had collections before and i was able to talk to both parties involved, collections agency as well as the company seeking the collections, so i said it sounds like you guys have got a scam going on here, he said if thats the case then this would have been shut down a long time ago, i said not really, you guys just havent been caught yet. a bunch of bologna i say!

I found out about a NCS/BMG account on my report after applying for a home, It was showing placed on credit in 2008, I wanted to get this off my credit so I could get this home so I paid the thing. Well as soon as I paid that one another one pops up and this time it is more $230 I decided I was not paying this time since I have never had a BMG account. When I called NCS they could only give me an address from 2003 remember BMG shows on my report but when I press the Guy he transfers me to a Lady and she say's it is Columbia House account I call Columbia House, They say Paid I find out its not the same account. I find Mr. Murphy's # and Call instead of going thru the bull he tells me he will take 85.00 He sent me a removal letter and I pay, Instead of removing it they updated it not once in June but Twice in two weeks my credit is shot, I disputed this with the CRA and within two days they send me a validation letter so I sent them a certified letter with the paid reciept from Capital assistance/Mr. Murphy and maybe this will work. I will send this to the Att.Gen. next if they do not follow the FCRA. If they can take the amount I paid Mr. Murphy and subtract that from the so called debt and update that on my credit report then they have had time to remove the account, this is bull ----!

Wow! It sounds like there's some shady business going on with BMG and Columbia House! I've been experiencing some financial troubles of my own as of late and thought this would be a good forum in which to seek advice on a solid, no-nonsense Wondering if anyone has experiences they could share with me so I know what to avoid. Thanks!

I work for a bank as a collector! I was dumbfounded by the information that was reported to my credit report. What is this? I cannot believe that this happened. I am proceeding with all efforts to remove this item. This is a dirty scam by BMG. Are they going bankrupt like many companies in today's age? Is this their attempt to avoid losing more money? This is total fraud! Good luck to all and remember not all bill collectors are dirty and rotten most of us are in the business because we understand and have gone through the same trials that many are faced with today. Thanks to all that have posted the information. There are many great scenarios for solutions to this problem.

Is it just me or has no one posted a final outcome to their situation?? I have not seen one post where the person described what happened in the end, whether it was cleared off their credit report or remained on. I am encountering the same exact issue and currently writing a dispute letter. BUT NO ONE HAS POSTED THEIR OUTCOME AS TO WHAT HAPPENED?? WAS THEIR CREDIT SCORE FIXED, WERE THEY SUED??
THIS THREAD IS STARTING TO SEEM SHADY SINCE IN 10 ENTIRE PAGES NO ONE HAS POSTED A SOLUTION.

I have been in touch with the Federal Fair Trade Commission. This is a scam that is happening to MANY MANY people. I STRONGLY suggest that you contact the agency immediately. DO NOT PAY THE DEBT. Do not even bother calling. The chances are, you will speak to Jason, Michelle, Zoe, or Brandi. These four seem to be mentioned in complaints continuously on the internet. We must all come together, or at least get to the news with this. They seem to be hitting people's accounts as soon as they see you have made an inquiry so that you can purchase a large item (car, house, etc...)

I just began my nightmare with NCO via BMG/CMH. Yes, it was directly after I applied for a mortgage and yes, I only found out because of my credit report, and yes, it's been over five years, and yes, the charges are false - they won't provide me with an invoice or any documentation, and yes, they were rude and extremely aggressive. However I didn't speak with Jason, Michelle, Zoe, or Brandi, I got the lovely, very nasty Jade. I am taking the advice of NOT paying this scam, it will NOT repair your credit score. Once you have been tagged by a collection agency, it stays on your credit report(s) long after. You need to fight to have it removed altogether. Also, I just completed the form letter provided by my state attorney general, copied it and mailed it immediately. If I receive no assistance from them, I will contact an attorney. JADE didn't like when I asked for her extension to have my attorney contact them. THAT's when it got nasty. Coincidence? I don't think so. I will update with any progess and hope to hear any actions that resulted in a positive outcome (as Anonymous stated above). Good luck to all!

I am also stuck in the BMG/DirectBrands/NCS/CAG dance. And yes- it appeared right after applying for a mortgage. I have disputed them separately, done the DV separately. Now- I will be disputing DV'ing all of them with the exact same notice, letting each of them know that I know about the rest of them and that everyone is getting the same notice. This is BS and I will not stand for it.

I have followed these steps: I submitted a dispute with Experian and a complaint with the FTC and emailed NC the debt validation letter and will send a certified letter in the mail tomorrow return receipt included. Thank you for getting my stress level down and that I DO have options.

We are experiencing the exact same tactic, except it with supposedly unpaid billings of $116 from Hollywood Video which closed locally in Aug. 2009 and went into bankruptcy. We did not owe HV a balance when they closed nor have we ever been contacted by HV or, until now when it popped up on my credit report today, 12-9-10 and dropped my score by 50 points. Interesting tactic to drum-up charges 17 month later when no one can provide proof of “records” (movie rentals receipts!??? Oh, sure!) can ever be recovered. We are also contacting the Az. Attorney General's office to fight this dishonest attempt to co-hearse money from responsible people through time delay tactics. NATIONAL CREDIT SOLUTIONS bought the debt of HV and now are bilking all those that they have records to recoup their losses.

NATIONAL CREDIT SOLUTIONS will send a detail report but you have call and ask for it, or they will just sit on your credit report until you cave in. But if you don’t fight the parasites like the NATIONAL CREDIT SOLUTIONS of the world , you’ll soon get eaten alive.

So I had an ordeal with NCS. I have a few pointers for those of you that have found out that a negative account has been put on your credit report from NCS. I have to admit, I was scared when my credit monitoring service notified me that NCS had put a deliquent account on my credit report. I owed $120 from a business that was closing and it had dropped my score from 738 to 680. I did my research online which included reading the threads on this website. First, you can dispute the charge with NCS. In my case it was listed on my Experian credit report so all I had to do was go to experian.com and file a dispute. it's very easy. If you need help with this, let me know. Second, if you know this is your account and you do owe on it, call NCS at 1-800-384-0585. Do not believe the previous posts about not paying the account. Sure you can dispute it and NCS will probably just notify the credit bureau to delete it from your account. But remember: the account is still past due and even if it's not with NCS anymore it can be transferred to another collections agency and may show up on your credit report. I spoke with an NCS representative who was very nice and informed me that if I paid the account, it would be deleted from my credit report. This is true! I paid it and it is no longer on my credit report. NCS will work with you and removes accounts after they have been paid from your credit report. Just remember: pay the account if you can or pay in installments after you speak to NCS. This does not cement the negative account in your credit report. It removes it. If you do not pay it it will show up sooner or later. Any questions-let me know and I'd be glad to help!
