I have a debt from capital one that is a little less that 1000 dollars that was charged off a couple years ago. The account is not showing as being sold on my report so I assume they still own it. This account is 2 years overdue and I am concerned about it hurting my allready abtetred credit score if I pay it off.

Has anyone had any success in getting capital one to remove negative entries from credit report after paying the full amount owed on a chrage off?

As far I have heard Capital One are one of the toughest nut to crack and get a Pay to Delete. But I’ll say, talk to them first and hard bargain with them. After bargaining they’ll quote a minimum amount which they can accept. Press them for a pay-for-delete, which they can do.

Please make it sure that the every communication you do with them is documented. You should send a letter through a certified mail.

Yeah I called them to verify they still owned the debt, and mentioned a PFD and they said it was not an option and the only thing I could get would still have chargeoff applied to it. Whether it be a PIF-chargeoff or settled-chargeoff...

I assume this is because the person on the phone simply didnt have the authority to negotiate?

Hi!
Welcome to the forums!
I think they will update your account status as "Paid charge-off" or "Settled charge-off". I feel that it is better to talk to the supervisor of the customer care department of Capital One. A "Settled" or "Paid charge-off" status on your credit report is much better than a "charge-off". Check out the steps to settle your debts on your own from the following page:
