|

Hi, I'm new here and looking for advice. I'm 21 and have got myself into a bit of mess with credit cards. I looked at my credit report tonight to see just how bad it was I have 8605 worth of charges off on my report. I would like to start repairing credit but right now but I don't have much money to work with. I had 3 major cards (citi, chase,&capital one) and the others were store cards(goody's,buckle, old navy,Dillard's,American eagle, and a few more I can't remember right now). Just looking for suggestions on what I can do to start repairing my credit?

How old are these CO's? What state do you live in? Residence matters as the statute of limitations (SOL) varies. The SOL is how long they can take to sue you.
I am by no means an expert but in my opinion the most important thing right now is to prevent any of them getting a judgment or garnishing your wages. A judgment takes 10 years to drop off and can be renewed in some states.

They CO's are fairly new Sept-Dec 2007. I live in TN. I got the credit cards when I was 18-19 and was able to pay them on time til Dec 06 then it just went downhill from there.

With them all being such recent CO's I have no advice for you, mine were all much older when I started repairing mine. I think you have a very real chance of being sued and as I said, you don't want those judgments. Have you signed up for the free consultation?
Don't let it get you down, you are showing a lot of maturity by trying to get a handle on this now. I wish I knew what I know now at 21 years old.

I agree with LoneGunman. You need to do something right away before you get any judgements. They can look just as bad as a bankruptcy on your credit report. I normally suggest people to stay clear of debt consolidation companies but in this case you really might want to consider it. Just remember to research the company if you decide to do it. I always tell people to check with the BBB to make sure any company there are considering doing business with does not have a large complaint history.

I don't believe you can get your credit score for free anywhere without signing up for atleast something. You are allowed to get a free copy of all three of your credit reports from each of the three major credit bureaus once a year. I have created a website dedicated to showing people how to do this so they don't get suckered into all of these "free credit report" scams that are everywhere. I promise I don't charge any fees or require you to sign up for anything.
If you are insistant on getting your credit score that just becareful that you are paying for your FICO score. Some companies give you a score that they create which may come close to your FICO but it is not the real thing.
