How do companies "verify" debt

I mean do they pretty much just say yes I believe this debt belongs to them and the cb takes that???

I had a bad experience with Transunion the other day, I called and asked the lady how she verified the debt and she said that the company responded and said that they believed that it was mine, then I go on to tell her that every time I call them they say that I am not in the system, and then I ask how is that so, she says to me I DONT KNOW YOU WOULD HAVE TO ASK THEM, so I ask her for some contact information and she refuses!!!

What can I do???

When a company "verifies" a debt, they'll send you a letter stating that they verify that they think you owe it. You need to request debt "validation", which is what you can consider proof of the debt. If you have the creditors info, you could send them a DV letter. Usually your credit report has that on there.

Are you saying that the CA can't verify the debt to YOU? Is it showing on your credit report but the CA can't locate you? Who is the CA?

Well then, you file your complaints.if you sent a dv letter, they have to validate or go away.alliance asset tried that with me.ag and bbb complaints and it's been 2 months.nothing.did you send the dv certified mail return receipt?if you did,did you also send a c&d letter?if you did both of those.get those complaints out asap.

If it is not yours, I recommend you file an identity theft report with your local police department. you can usually do that over the phone, for free. You can present a copy of the report, or sometimes just the case number, to the CA and they MUST remove it.

Also, you can request from the CRA the 'process of verification' (or worded like that) by law they have to provide you with the name and number of who verified the account and how.
