Hi All,
Can I dispute or have deleted my current work number from my credit report? My employer does not want me getting personal calls and I recently found out
that it is on my credit report.

Work numbers have been used by credit card companies and mortgage lenders to get the employment verification data of the consumer. In my opinion you can request the bureau to get the number deleted though iam not very sure about it. So, please hang on...someone will be here shortly to answer your query.

Your personal info can be updated or removed by a simple dispute to credit bureaus. Do be aware it may show up again if a creditor is reporting it. In that case send updated info to your creditors and ask that your work number not be reported.

I know that it is very easy to have the information removed by disputing it with the bureaus. But that won't prevent it from re-appearing in the future.

Usually any time you fill out a new credit application, the info you provide is used to keep your credit file up to date. Unfortunately if you don't provide your job info on the application, then the creditor can regard it as "incomplete" and deny you credit.

My company recently upgraded our systems and now we are compliant with MetroII. Now every month, not only are we reporting account info, but our computers are automatically sending employer info to the bureaus. I personally don't like that, but the only way to stop it from within my system would be either 1) not report the account at all; or 2) not keep employer info in our files. I would be hard-pressed to say a creditor will do either of those; and I don't think there's any laws out there that would force them not to report your employer info.

But it may be possible. Call the creditor who you believe may be reporting it. Ask them to "memo" your employer info in the notes, instead of in the demographic fields.
