They are not going to come and arrest you. They are practicing very illegal collection tactics and many of us have been harrassed by this company. Don't let these idoits scare you into sending any money, as you have probably read you are not alone. What state do you live in? Tell these dirt bags, you are not sending any money until you see something on paper (debt validation). Have you defaulted on any PDL's loans previously or in the past?

first of all, all of you need to find something better to do with your time then take out loans, spend all the money, and then come up with stupid excuses about why you cant pay them back... ("i had fraud on my account, someone stole my check book, i couldnt find the companys number, i already paid") then you get on here and come up with a million things that "collection agencies" do wrong, and their "illegal" scare tactics so you can try and get them shut down instead of just being a responsible adult and paying your debt. i mean, why borrow money if you know you cant pay it back, thats just stupid. i understand things happen.. but you all need to understand that there are people doing this every day, and the companies are getting sick of it. also, you might want to look in the dictionary at the definition of "harrassment".

Tell you what - I'll look it up if you learn proper spelling and the principle of capital letters.

The fact is that most people do not have an issue with repaying their debts. We all hit hard times - we simply ask for a little help to get them repaid. Many companies will work with you. There are a select few that use illegal tactics in an attempt to collect a debt, from threats to misrepresentation and so on. The Fair Debt Collection Act was created to protect people that want to do right but are harassed beyond belief.

I too received a call yesterday, then googled the phone # this morning and found this website - I'm so glad I did! I thought my debt was paid, have heard nothing from United Loans over the past 8 months or so, then out of the blue, Candice from Bass & Assoc. calls threatening me with jail, faxing my employer, bank fraud, and had me scared to death. My blood pressure cannot take this type of scare. I didn't sleep at all last night, thinking of how to send them 1/2 of the $ today, then finding this site saved me alot of grief. I have just mailed a certified letter to them asking for a detail of the debt they say I owe, and asking them to cease the calls. I inserted the Fed'l Trade Commission Act parts that talk about harrassment, proof and ceasing communication. Wonder if I'll hear from them again???? Today at 1pm was my deadline, it has passed and no calls from her yet!

They told me to do a money gram for $820 and when I asked them to tell me what the amount was for all they could say is that they could not provide me that information until the payment was made or after they filed the case with the police and that the police would come get me at my job. Is this going to happen, please help, I am running out of time.

OR, comes through mail in which u may get yourself an attorney or get legal representation.

I have too recieved a call from Bass & Associates back last month and most recently, yesterday. I have pretty much experienced the same things you guys are talking about. Don't let thems scare you, because you cannot be arrested for a debt. I have filed a complaint with the BBB in Jacksonville, Fl and also have sent them a validation letter. As soon as, I get something back from them.. I will negogiate a reasonable amt to paid off the debt. But I will not pay the $700, bucks they say I owe. I will only pay the original amt borrowed, plus the fee. If you need to contact them here is the telephone # and physical address I was given:

1-877-281-2224
Bass & Associates
9738 Arlington Expressway, Suite 323
Jacksonville, FL 32225

I hope things work out, but we all need to be responsible, after all we did borrow the money, but you do have rights as well.

Good luck

You also need to file a complaint with FL Attorney General's office, If I'm not mistaken this company isn't supposed to be in business and are operating illegally, they are in HOT water with FL for their illegal practices, and you need to let the FL AG's office know they are doing this.

AmandaB, what state are you from. OH has an online complaint form you can file, it is the best way they told me because you will get a quicker response. I would check to see if FL has an online complaint system as well. But you do need to send it to both agencies. In OH if you have multiple companies, then you do a complaint for them individually.

Yes Florida does have an online complaint form, just go to http://www.myfloridalegal.com/ and you can fill one out. When I did my complaint to the FL AG's office, I called and did it over the phone and the guy was so nice. I then received some papers in the mail that I had to fill out and get notorized and then send back to them. 1-866-966-7226
You can also print out a complaint form and mail it in as well.
