I have been dealing with these idiots for the past few weeks. first of all, I wanted to know if it is legal to give your bank information over the phone. second of all, is it legal to pay off a debt for a friend over the phone with nothing in writing and no formal consent to go into someones bank account and try to take out their money to resolve the debt. this doesnt seem right....this company needs to be shut down. they are corrupt and dont help you

It is legal to give the information over the phone. If they ask and you give it is legal. You have the right to refuse to give the information over the phone. With these companies you have to ask for the information to be put in writing and mailed or faxed to you. When I agrred to make a pay off I have always asked them to fax me something saying that if I pay this amount it will be considered paid in full. I tell them as soon as I get that letter then I will send them the money.

I agree, make them send you something in writing before you agree to make any payments. What type of debt are they trying to collect on? What state are you from? I would hesitate to give any information to a company using these tactics, probably would use a money order or certified check rather than my bank account information. Goodluck and keep us updated on what you plan to do.
