BCR collection agency - Do they have a good reputation?

Bureau of Collection Recovery or BCR is a collection agency offering accounts receivable management services. They are headquartered in the state of Michigan. Most people have had bitter experience with BCR collection agency and they have shared their experience with the guests and members of the Debt Consolidation Care community.

What allegations do they have against BCR collections?

The allegations against BCR collection agency are varied. The complaints against them range from calling consumers for wrong debts to harassing them over the phone. Let's take a quick look at the following experiences people have had with this collection agency:

  • Calling the wrong person: As per the feedback shared by people, one of the predominant allegations against BCR is that they call the wrong people to collect debts. Like many others, a consumer received several annoying calls from BCR collections looking for a person he has never known! He told them that the person they are looking for does not live with him and asked them to stop calling him. But he kept getting those calls. Read more.
  • Collecting debts that are paid off: A consumer says BCR collection agency called him to collect a debt worth $1000. He claims that he had paid off that debt with a different collection agency and had the documents to prove it. He believes that BCR is a scam company! Know more.
  • Collecting debts which are false: A person alleges that the collection agency claimed that he owed AT&T money. But according to that person he never had any account with AT&T! Find in detail.
  • Making calls at place of work: There has been allegations against BCR collections that they call people at work. Collection agencies are not allowed to call your office, if the office policy does not allow it. A consumer says that BCR not only called him at his place of work, but was also rude with his supervisor. Get the details.
  • Harassment & threat to file lawsuit: A consumer complains that he received several harassing calls from the CA. The company representatives talked to him rudely and even threatened him of a lawsuit. Find out more.

Consumers have accused the BCR collection agency of collecting false debts or debts that have been paid off. But what if they are collecting a valid debt from you? Do you have to pay it off? How should you deal with the CA in that case? Read the following section and check out the answers to these queries:

How do you negotiate with BCR to settle a valid debt?

If the BCR collection agency validates the debt, you need to pay it off. Otherwise, your credit will be affected and the CA might also take legal action against you. In such a situation, you should negotiate with them to settle the debt for a lower amount. Given below are some points on how to negotiate a settlement with the CA.

  1. Find out how much you can pay:
Before you approach the BCR to settle the valid debt check out how much you can afford to pay. Prepare a budget and review your income and expenses thoroughly. Once you have decided how much you are going to pay, start negotiations by offering them less. Never offer money beyond what you can afford to pay. You should also be careful enough to not disclose your financial information like bank account details, etc. while negotiating with them.
  2. Check how the debt will be reported:
It is important that you talk to the CA regarding removal of the derogatory items from your credit report. Check with them if they will remove the negative information from the credit report once the debt is settled.
  3. Insist on a written agreement:
If the BCR collections agrees to accept your settlement offer, ask them to provide you with a written document clarifying the various terms of the agreement. It should clearly state the following:
    • The amount you have agreed to pay
    • How the money would be paid - in lump sum or in installments
    • How the payments would be made - through cashier's check or via electronic transfer
    • What if there is a breach of agreement, etc.

The written agreement will be legally valid and you should not sign it till the time you are fully aware of all the terms of the agreement.

The agents at BCR Collection Agency call my home phone at least daily, sometimes more often.
They are looking for a person, last name, Nyugen.
That is not me.
The home number I have, I have had for 17 years.
I tell them when I answer the phone the person they are looking for does not live here, nor have they ever lived here. I tell them I do not know him.
I ask them each and every time to stop calling my phone number.
They will not stop.
One agent hung up on me.
I have called them back insisting to speak with a manager. They will no connect me to a supervisor.
An agent told me that the numbers they call are loaded into a computer 48 hours in advance and they cannot cease the calls. They have told me they have noted my complaint. They seem to do nothing and continue to call.
What is up with these people?
They are using Sprint cell phone numbers based in Washington, DC
The latest are 1-202-607-2732 and 1-202-607-2733.
There is also a toll-free number.
1-866-364-9836
How do I get them to stop calling my home number?

Can you call your provider and file a complaint? Or file a complaint with the FTC? Just a couple thoughts.

I have also had the same experience with BCR collections. Since 1/23/08 I have talked to them eight times and they have called my house many more times. I have asked them to stop because the person they ask for does not live here and I have never heard of the person they ask for. I have had the same number for more than 20 years. I have asked them not to call and each time they agree but continue to call. I have called the numbers back and have been hung up on and each time the person is rude. When I do talk to someone who seems as though they are listening, they tell me I have been removed from the list.
these are numbers used by BCR in Washington DC:
202-607-2756
202-607-2806
1-888-714-2338
1-800-831-7311
What can be done?

BCR Collection Agency has called me several times looking for my son. When I've failed to divulge any info to them they just call from another cell phone. Today I e-mailed the FCC with their 800 and cell numbers. I hope I can rely on them to give me some relief from these rude people.

I am having the same problem with this BCR Collection Agency. I tell them the person they are asking for does not exist at this number. I tell them to stop calling and harassing me. They say they will remove the number from their files and then the next day the calls start again. I ask for the phone number they are calling from, but they will not give it to me. I don't have called ID because I can't afford the extra ten dollars per month it costs. How do I get these people to leave me alone ???

Have the same problems with these people. With my phone service I am able to forward select phone numbers to a different number. I have directed all of BCR collection's phone numbers to a 1-800 adult number and they still call every day.

Here is a quick answer for you. If your son owes a bill, give up the information as to where he is, and THEN tell them to stop calling. If your son is getting ANY mail at your home, or uses your home number for ANYTHING at all, you will continue to get calls for him daily.

Send them a Cease Communication letter, along with a letter stating FDCPA Section § 809 Validation of Debts [15 USC 1692g] tell them that under federal law they are required to stop collection activities until they do so. You are able to sue them if they continue to attempt to collect on the account and keep calling you. Find a sample letter for this and send it ceritified mail or delivery confirmation. They will stop, don't get bullied.

It seems that a bunch of us are dealing with abusive calling from BCR debt collection...they have called my cell phone 11 times in the last 2 days (and I had already asked them to stop calling me, I don't even know the person they are asking for and I have had this phone number for over 7 years). Here's my idea...maybe if we email or call the local better business bureau, city council, mayor, attorney general etc in their hometown...that might get us some relief. Here are some links.

According to the FDCPA, the Cease & Desist request needs to be in writing. Send it via Certified Mail, Return Receipt Requested. If they call you again after you get the green card back, sue them and collect your $1,000.

First if you have your number on the Do not call list go in their and report them, next get with you local Better Business Bureau online and make a case on them. Next will be the cease and desist request in writing and send it to bcr collection agency address via certified mail. It serves as the 3rd warning according to the courts and next you can open up a civil law suit more likely to win because you have done all three things first before going into the court process. I just started getting calls from them for someone I have never heard of in my life and I think it could be people could be writing down random numbers for contact info because they do plan on defrauding companies. So when they hire these collections people they keep calling because I believe they don't believe you since the people who give them these false contacts until you take the right channels to stop there calls.

Nope. the Do Not Call list is for telemarketers and does NOT include collectors. You have to fight them on an individual level or change your phone number.

I explained the call. They try to say my name was Paul Webb. When i explained who i was and demanded they take my number out of thier data base and told them if i received any more calls that i will call the better business bureau and call the attorney general of the state i live in. which i keep these numbers on hand just for these cases.
