Collection agency not sending the debt details

Does anyone know the following phone number 800-847-9653 they are calling stating we owe money but will not send us anything in writing as far as what the debt intails. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

I've only found "800-847-9653 us area codes" that is all it said, and one of the same number only an 888 area code that was a car dealership number.

Either way, don't give them anything until the produce a piece of paper validating your debt. If they keep calling try and get as much information from them as you can, like the Reps name and such, and file a complaint.

1-800-847-9653 is a collection agency of some kind. But when you call after hours and get their answering machine, they call themselves "Citizens."

They have also refused to send me any information by mail, and have also refused all my offers to settle the debt they claim I owe, stating that the arrangements I offer are "Unsatisfactory." Their representatives are also rude, condescending and flat-out insulting.

I believe they are required BY LAW to contact you in writing within 5 days of initial phone contact. Whoever these people are, I'm finding it very hard to believe they are legit.

Welcome to the Community It does sound like a collection agency to me,too. Just be carefull and don't give them any personal info, including bank info, until you get debt validation that this is your debt and they can legally collect from you.

They are suppossed to send you a letter via mail within that time frame, but some don't!I'll see what I can find out about them for you..Feel free to ask questions.Karen

I did manage to find out who they are at least affiliated with, based on the phone number 716-650-6240 that comes up on my caller ID when they call my cell phone (how they got my cell number, I'll never know). It's National Action Financial Services, and I found them by searching the BBB national database.

I would like to know if I am in the right to ask the collector that is calling to send me a letter from the company they state hired them to prove that they have been infact hired to collect on a debt? I ask them to send me a breakdown of the interest they has occured, the original contract (as I can't find mine) and a letter stating they were hired.

Any response would be greatly appreciated.

P.S. They said they cannot provide me with what I want which I tend to think is boggus but for what reason - don't understand why they wouldn't provide what I asked for.

Any advice would be appreciated as I am uncertain as to my right on what they should be proding me with - I would like to think that what I am asking for (above) is totally reasonable and that they should provide it - especially the letter stating they were hired - It's almost like sendig money to just anyone threatening you which I believe they prey on.

A woman claiming to be something that sounds like Jaimie Porter with the return phone number of 800-847-9653. When I call that number the machine answers and tells me that I should leave a message and then tells me that the message box is full with unanswered messages.
These people are obviously violating federal law under the fair debt practices law.
I suspect that they are "phishing".
Tell them nothing, confirm nothing, demand fax copies of documents. Do not give them your name, address, or anything else until they cough up some faxes. Take the faxes to an attorney and file complaint after complaint until the government makes them go out of business.

ok. here goes.. i read these every day .. people who are still calling themselves customers when they have racked up thousands of dollars in debt and now feel they are in hardship and not able to pay back what they've stolen... omg excuse me "borrowed"..... yea right .. should have listened to the pastor or priest.. thou shall not steal... if you borrowed it you give it back; dont live outside your means; and my favorite.. if you dont have the cash, you CANNOT afford it.... sorry about your car accident and if you had insurance on the card in the first place with gap insurance you wouldnt be in that situation... it is sooo disgusting how you homeowners think that you can claim hardship... cant wait until they attach a lein to your pretty little white pickett fence... and those of you who read this and arent debtors... be active.. stop these leeches from stealing food out of our childrens mouths by living foolishly... for gods sake... stop america from stealing!!!

First of all you are an idiot mr. guest. I just wanted to clear that up right from the start. Also I don't know why you would pick some random thread to attach your garbage to. Anyway I posted what I think is the moral obligations of a creditor about a year ago and I am going to attach it here.

I have very little sympathy for most of our credit industry. With a major bank on every street corner in the nicest building and you wonder where they made all that money. I feel no moral obligation to pay any PDL or IPDL other than maybe the principle if it is a store front. I think they should all be illegal. I feel no moral obligation to pay fees in order for banks to make fat profits i.e. late fees, over limit fees and what ever other fees they have conjured up. I feel no moral obligation to pay the interest on a high interest rate loan especially when they agreed to one rate and later they switch it to 29% or whatever the max rate is. I feel no moral obligation to repay any debt after bankruptcy other than debts that can not be bankrupted i.e. taxes and student loans.

Frankly our banks are out of control when it comes to handing out credit and there biggest profit is made on those that really can not afford the debt to begin with. Basicly they make a lot of money when you default. Personally I think all credit interest rates should be capped at prime + a couple percentage points on all loans. This would force creditors to take caution when they hand out credit and it would force borrowers to learn to live at their means. It would end the days of CC companies handing out cards to people with no jobs, diasabled, students, mentally retarded, deceased, pets and people that never even existed.

The only credit I think our society benefits from is low interest home mortgages and maybe auto loans. The rest of it is garbage and is only offered to take money from you and put it in the pocket of a banker. A couple of great quotes are "Cash is King" and "The borrower is slave to the lender".

I have been getting the same calls from Jamie Porter - I do not owe any money and somehow at least 5 debt collectors have gotten my number and are calling non stop - at least a few of them have left messages with who they are trying to reach so I know it does not pertain to me. I filed a complaint with the FTC - I am also sending them a cease communication letter - hopefully this will all stop soon

Yeah, I have this number call me all of the time, the 800 number listed above. Some mean old man sounding guy is implying that I have some unpaid debt, and I better call him back, or bad things may happen to me. Well, Ihave NO debt, of any kind. This sound to mt to be a form of "bait" he is setting out, to attract potential customers, with the thought of refinancing their debt, at some high, "rip off" rate. I personally think his system is setup to attract really stupid people, for the act of collecting some payments before they default again. Then he sells the debt to another collector. If he can do this several times a day, it will produce a nice stream of passive income for him...Kinda creative on his part.
Like I said, I have NO debt, none, nadda, zippo. I have changed my home phone number 4 times in the past 3 years. I am just asking myself this one question, Why am I paying for a home phone, just so I canbo bothered with these crank calls? Makes mee kinda stupid I know... I am currently a collector in New York, and like all the other collectors on this site and others i say pay your bills. If you don't like the policies of the credit institution, don't sign up for these credit cards and other forms of credit. I tell people on the phone that i don't feel like they should have to pay all of the interest that was added on, but you signed up for it, your are responsible. I like to help people on the phone as much as i can....but most people who are willing to speak with us are rude to begin with as if i was the one who charged them all the interest. Debtors get on the phone and claim they are going to file bankruptcy or want validation of debt......these are usually signs of someone trying to avoid what they are responsible for. And, yes, we do ask you for your bank account information.....that is because like the old saying "the check is in the mail"....it usually isn't that is why we ask for payment over the phone. Collectors get bulldogged by debtors everyday....we should have a complaint website about you.
My advice to anyone who owes a debt that is in collections......1. forget debt consolidation companies......they charge you to talk to me......when you can talk to me for free.....2. most collectors are nice and want to help you out......most of the people i work with were like you and owed money to an agency....they know how it is.....i would rather settle an account out with someone at 60 cents on a dollar....remove all that interest then have you make 100/mo payments and pay the whole balance......3. sorry if were call all your relatives......you as the debtor are first to get a call.......when you ignore us for so long......we have the right to call anyone to get another number for you......so don't ignore the call......stop trying to find on websites who is calling and why.....answer the phone and talk to us......we don't want to talk to relatives......neighbors......or you at work......we want to talk to you at home......talk to us.....let us know what numbers we can call to contact you......and i am sure we can come to some sort of an agreement.
I'm sure i will receive many nasty comments on what i just wrote, but seriously think about what i said and my advice.

They have purchased a paper from the origial creditor and are
trying to get the money back that they squandered to buy the
paper in the first place. Most of the debts have become so old
with no resolution they have been written off their books. I
