Just an update, I have yet to receive anything in writing from this company and amazingly enough they have not called me again or tried to reach me at my parents house. I have this funny feeling that since I told them that I did some homework on them and knew that they weren't on the "up and up" they have decided that in order to avoid a situation they would leave me alone. Show's how legit they really are don't you think?

You are totally within in your rights to sue. In fact, I refuse to talk to anyone over the phone. If they have a matter that requires serious attention, they can send me a note via certified mail, and I will respond accordingly.

Here is what I have found.. Most collection agencies are shams. They make money by bullyinging people over the phone or in writing, and it means nothing. For the few legit collection firms out there, that wish to sue you, they botch up the procedure so horribly, that anyone that knows a little bit, (just go to your local library for assistance, and look up your states court procedure rules) will get their case dismissed..

There is just no money in suing people that know that what they are doing. Most collections agencies make their money by buying debts for pennies on the dollar and trying to recover something by any means necessary. they typically break laws, and again, anyone in the know, can have the collection agencies owing them!!!

I can not comprehend why collection agencies always resort to abuse. My brother never paid his bills, and the collectors were always calling the house, harrasing everyone my parents, etc.. I was amazed at how rude they were!!! Did they really expect for someone to pay them?

there must be people out there that actually respond to this bullying. I sure dont. It makes me angry, and then I can educated and start writing letters. Just when it starts to get fun for me, they back off.

Its like the bully that never picks on anyone their own size.

Earlier this morning the phone rang. The caller ID said "Atty L Hecker" and the number was 609 570 3039. I said "Hello" a couple of times but there was no response.

Apparently this happens often, according to what I found via Google!

If you are on the do-not-call-list, they can call you. BUT they cannot call you and abandon the call repeatedly. This is also called "War Dialing"; why, I don't know. Why would someone call you if they have nothing to say? This is also sometimes a result of computers going out of whack. But you CAN go to FCC's website and file a complaint of harassment and/or to your state's attny general's office and file a COMPLAINT. War Dialing is AGAINST THE LAW and you can, at least, get revenge on this in this way!!!! Keep a log of how many times this happens and file a complaint. It's guaranteed to put a giant poochy lip on them when they get the call from the authorities. I understand there's some huge fines associated with this!!! HeeHee! I've done it to them before. I'm TIRED of harassment phone calls and people that call and say nothing!!!!!!!

They did it to me also. We went through the process of setting up payment arrangements. It statrted to sound fishy. So i xalled my mom and she told me that a law firm would not ask for personal information over the phone, or call your work phone # to harras you. This so called firm is on the Colorado law list for the most scams in the Denver metro area in 2009.

I co signed a loan for someone 16 years ago. I received a call from the L Hecker firm. It seems the debt is interest for late charges. If the payments were late why didn't they call me 16 years ago.

I too received a call from this group. However this call wasn't for me. It was for my father Who I haven't spoken too in years. My father does not have my home # the name of the person is Tony Brewer. Now understand my father is a very old man. The message that he left was thereis a serious claim file against him in this Law Firm and he need to speak with him right away because he is in allot of trouble. Not speaking to my father all these thoughts are running thru my head wondering what had happen because my Father has never been in trouble.I decided to call this attorney and see what is wrong and how did he get my # as I am unlisted. He gave me a very hard time asking me personal questions how they could contact my dad. When I told him I haven't talked to him in years be all but called me a liar and wanted to know how to reach him. I kept asking him how he got my # and he wouldn't answer me.He told me my dad was in serious trouble and it was very important to talk to him.Without coming out right and saying it he made me believe even the police was involved. Now that I have read this post I am going to call my attorney on Monday and let him hear the message they left on my voice mail. And no I have no outstanding bills against me. The answer to the goof ball who said all collection agency's have attorney on staff is full of it. My mother owned a collection agency for years. She paid a attorney to use his name that is all!!!! Working for her I know this outfit has broken some serious laws!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I too received a call from these people for a debt that my husband supposedly owes from 2001. When I told them I knew nothing of the debt it was before we were married and that my husband was in Afghanistan (just left) they threatened to call his Commanding Officer saying that this could all harm his career and keep him from making rank....when I told them this sounded like a threat, they replied "I'm not threatening you ma'am, I am just trying to keep this from happening to you". Kept demanding to know when the next time I would speak to my husband.....communication is null at this point and I told them that and they said they would give me a week to contact him and they would call back to make arrangements for payment. Umm NO--will not pay a debt we know nothing about and honestly feel a little better about this whole situation after reading some of these post I now that these people are nothing but scam artists. After reading these posts I know have plenty of ammo to fire back when they make their return phone call.

I got a call from these guys yesterday. Glad i googled it today. They wanted to settle a debt from 96. Started asking a couple of questions about kids, full time employment, ect. I was willing to settle with them till I read this but we couldnt agree on a dollar figure. I wasnt going over 400 and they wanted 500. It was uncontrollable curcimstances why I owed the bill from 96 and I would be willing to settle it with the origional creditor but not these crackpots. I will make them supply me with some documentation or leave me alone. On another note both Steve Martin or Mr. Mason were somewhat polite. As soon as people start yelling I turn into a brick wall or have fun with it. The conversation ended with I will talk to my lawyer and see what my rights are. Havent heard back from them yet. Now I am kinda looking forward to it.

Well, first of all stop and think about it. Nineteen Ninety SIX? MOST states have a statute of limitations law. After that, if I do understand the law correctly (I am NOT an expert) there's LITTLE they can do except harm your credit, and i don't even think they can do THAT if it is past the Statute.
Here's one that happened to ME a few year back. I lost my job, got a bit behind with things. I never 'welched" on any debt; I continued to PAY them until I got caught up. Eventually I regained my credit rating (over 840!). In 2001, I had a stroke I attribute a lot to my past difficulties. At the time I was almost destitute and was in process of going onto disability. When I came out of hospital I received various bills, but also qualified for Medicaid. I paid EVERY bill that was presented OR sent it to Medicaid for payment. Every bill that I was presented, I handled promptly. Fast forward to 2007, when one fine day I received a bill from an alleged provider for $2000 for "services rendered" in 2001!!! I was floored, but also suspicious! Why were these people being so "nice" about it by offering to "let" me pay $10 per month. Something seemed "fishy"! WHY had they waited for SIX years to even present a statement, and 2) WHY were they willing to let me pay JUST 10 bucks per month. They had every opportunity to have their bill PAID by Medicaid in 2001---nearly a YEAR to get paid before my eligibility expired, BUT they NEVER sent ME a bill, nor did they bill Medicaid---even tho, in 2001, I had made them aware of said eligibility! In 2007, I was in better shape, but not willing to be taken to the cleaners IF I didn't owe this bill. Lawyer time!!!!!!!!! The attorney advised me that the provider had THREE years under the laws of my state to present medical bills, the statute had long expired, and this provider was sh-- outta luck!!!!!!! Why did I not consent to PAY the bill? BECAUSE it was their own error in house and they COULD'VE been paid in 2001 by sending it either to Medicaid or to me for handling! It WOULD have been paid if not for their own goof up! NOW! Why did they being so 'nice' by "letting" me pay ONLY 10 bucks? They were being SNEAKY. IF I had rolled over and paid the 10 dollars, IT WOULD HAVE RENEWED THE DEBT, BROUGHT IT UP TO DATE, AND I WOULD HAVE BEEN FORCED TO PAY EVEN THO IT WAS 6 YEARS OLD, & IT WAS *THEIR* FAULT, THEIR SCREWUP ANYWAY!
It was a great pleasure to send them the letter in which I informed them that I was NOT going to pay, and I outlined why according to the attorney that advised me. "If you have further questions, Madam, please consult *********, attorney at law".
Then I got a phone call from the Radiology lady that sent the bill! I could tell from her voice she was very disappointed, but she also told me they were closing this bill and marking it paid in full! LMAO! They messed up, it was THEIR own internal billing error, and had they presented the bill in a TIMELY manner, they would have been PAID!
It is a shame that these people can go around buying up old and expired bills, paid or not, and extort money from the people who may or may not remember the debt. They use scare tactics and intimidation to get people to pay bills they may not even OWE!!! I am shocked at the number that simply roll over and pay without even checking if its legit!!!!
Since then I've received calls from various collectors that were mistaken identity, and one that keeps calling me about someone that NEVER lived here. I have used the information gained here (and thru attorneys) to defend against these slime balls who will steal money--if you LET' em!
