Sub: #1 National Enterprise Systems - What can I do?

I have been speaking with National Enterprise Systems for about 3 and a half weeks now considering debt that I incurred when in high school. I opened up a credit card and maxed it out at $500 not really knowing what I was doing. Very stupid mistake. Now, with interest the debt has reached $5,000 and NES is on my case. Initially they were rude and unrelenting, yelling at me and hanging up and telling me "my life is over." I have been trying to work out payments with them as I am a college student in my third year and do not have a lot of money to immediately pay off $5K. They are unwilling to negotiate and now I have been told that if I do not pay a lesser amount ($2,000) by 4pm today, then I will be sued by Chase bank (the credit card issuer). What can I do here? They told me this is the last chance and I will have to pay their legal fees as well as my own, it'll go on record for 10 years, etc. etc. I cannot pay this, however I truly want to. I have no family to help and truly no where to go. Please let me know if there is anything I can possibly do to avoid court. Any help or advice is greatly appreciated.

They are in violation of the fdcpa. They can't tell you the original lender will sue you. You must send them a debt validation letter by return recipt and also a cease and desist letter. Copies of these can be found on the site at the side bar under "do it yourself" > sample letters. Do not listen to their crap. They know you are young and think they can intimiidate you. They must answer your letter and stop all collections until they do. Do not pay them a cent. Go to this site. www.budhibbs.com You will learn all about how to handle these people. Go to #168 under "agencies to avoid" and you will learn much. Just say you will no longer speak to them by phone if they call and hang up. They will be out of your life shortly. You came to the right place

I will definitely ask the CA to validate the account before putting any payment plan. I will be curious to know how a debt of $500 will add up to $5000 just in fees. When you signed the contract with the original creditor, the charges and the collection fees are supposed to be mentioned in it. The CA is not legally allowed to charge one more cent.

This agency is listed as one of the worst. They have a woman who signs false affadavits and all other things. They bring illegal lawsuits using falsified documents. Real bad news bottom feeders.

Is there no proof of their illegal activities with the FTC and the state AG? If they come to know about their using fake legal papers, this company must be shut down immediately. People need to complaint more

Thanks for all the help guys. However, I still want to pay off this debt so I can restore my credit. How might I be able to go about doing this?
