I've just been contacted by North Star Collections in Buffalo N.Y. The representative started off using deceptive tactics. George, they requested that I speak with you, when asked who he refused. Then I asked if he was calling from a collection agency in N.Y. he stated yes. I informed him I was just reading an article about agencies in his area. He then began telling me I owe Citi Bank $10,000, prior to verifying it he was speaking to George Jr or George III never gave me the mini miranda. I then informed the rep. that I was previously a Debt Collector and aware of several violations of the fdcpa. I informed him not to call the cell number again then ended the call. He called right back. I then asked for a supervisor, I was placed on hold the the same voice came on stating he was the supervisor. I asked for mailing address I was given 4285 Genesee St Cheektowaga, N Y 14225. I was called from 866 224 9824.

you all have a lot of growing up to do, if you dont want calls just pay YOUR bills, you sign the contract that legally binds you to paying that bill! you dont wanna pay it then dont borrow it, its as simple as that... the bank will try to collect the money for 5 months before it goes to collections so if you havent paid them in 5 months what would you expect them to do? if someone borrowed money from you you wouldnt wanna wait 5 months, a year or even a month... you have to understand everyones just trying to make a living, im sure the collectors dont enjoy calling you, its their job to make a living!! just like everyone else

Northstar hires shady people. One of their employees, we will call him "Vin," is looking up information at work for a buddy to harrass people with. PERSONAL information. There are numerous complaints to the NY State Attorney General's office.

Did they call your family and friends and did they tell them your situation. And did they say, you gave them your information?

My mother just found out, that North Star has been taking money out of her account for the last several months. No one has given this company permission to do so. Is there so law against this?? North Star said they don't need permission from the client, that they can just do it. So my mother has to go to the bank and pay them a fee to stop this agency from taking money out! What are her rights??

did they deposit money into her account?even if they did your mother can see the branch manager, and have the debits reversed claiming she didn't authorize them.then the manager can setup a new account not linked to the old one.again have her see the branch manager to get this done.this place either deposits without the person knowing,or just debits based on the fact that illegal pdl's share information.

I received a mostly unintelligible voicemail today, mentioning my last name, and something about court and submitting a statement of final intent. This person yawned through some of the words, sped through others. I called back, and was transferred twice before anyone would tell me who I was calling. "Mr. Ward" said it was the "pre-legal division of North Star," and something about my refusing to pay a charge through Bank of America. When I questioned it, he said, "your name is ___, right?" When I said no, he asked my name. I said I wouldn't answer that until he told me what North Star was. He hung up on me. I later realized it was my Aunt's name that he called me, who lives hundreds of miles away. I hope no one ever gives these rude slimeballs any money or information.

Don't waste your time in any conversation with them. They will say anything to get recovery of the debt. Best thing you can do is send them a letter telling them to contact you by mail only.... Or dispute the debt or tell them not to contact you at all.

But try to reason with them? Forget it.

Don't pay them. If your debt has made it to Northstar, wait it out. Think of it this way...these vultures don't deserve the money that you owed to somebody else.
In my case, I had credit cards over 10 yrs ago that I made a lot of purchases on...and for 5 yrs I paid them way more than I ever spent with the credit cards. I refused to pay the crazy interest after a point, and they sold my debt. They sold it to Northstar...the scum of the earth. Don't give them a penny. Take them to court....if the debt is old enough, you will win. Let them eat

Northstar has been harassing a relative of mine who is elderly and barely surviving on social security. That relative is unable to pay off a large debt left by a deceased spouse. A Northstar rep called both my brothers, pretending to be someone who lost contact with my relative and was wondering how the relative was doing and where can the person be found? Is it even legal to misrepresent oneself over the phone like that?

Called my elderly mother in another state. Possibley broke the law (Federal Debt Collections Practices Act) by discussing my debt owed, with her. Went on to tell her that if I didn't pay today, I would be taken to court next week and the amount I owed would be doubled. She was so worried about me that she offered to settle my debt. When she asked if she could call me before she did anything, they told her that she couldn't and that she needed to take care of it immediately or the agreement was void. They actually took her credit card number over the phone and charged several thousand dollars on it, all without notifying me. Pretty sure they have broken some laws. Any advice???
