I keep getting calls from Northstar. I am not behind on anything at all. The caller is asking for my EX-husband who is behind on EVERYTHING. He has been gone from my house (and my landline) for three years. Every time Northstar leaves a message, I call them abck as soon as I get home and tell them that he can't be found at this phone number and I give them his cell phone AND his new wife (a serial home wrecker) cell phone. But then a few weeks go by and they're calling me again, looking for HIM.
I am always polite, and always offer Northstar the cheater's number, and always ask them to remove my landline from the file and they always apoligize and say they will remove my number. Yet they're calling me again just a few weeks later. Always the same "case number"

Also, very strange and a bit freaky, they have even called MY cell number. even though I didn't even have this number until six months after I threw him out, so my cell number has never been tied to any of his accounts. (BTW, I had my name removed as an Authorized User in early 2008, and Northstar confirms that I am not liable once they figure out that I am not the Mrs. that they are seeking. (The idiot must have added the new wife to his credit cards and now she's stuck with his debt!)
So how did they get MY cell number? They even threatened legal action on my real estate until I reminded them very poltiely, YET AGAIN, that he can't bereached here, and that I am not a co-debtor on any of his debts.

Send them a full cease comm reminding them that you are not responsible for the account and any further calls to your cell phone will result in you filing suit against them for $500 per call under the TCPA.

I keep getting calls from these folks for a person with the same last name but a different first name. Unfortunately my telephone listing contains my first initial instead of my first name.

Usually I the incoming call is a hangup or a recording. Whenever a live person calls, I explain and ask them to remove me from the list, but usually the caller hangs up on me while I am speaking.

This is NOT a case of a changed telephone number either. I have had this telephone number since 1993!

It's fine for there to be laws about how they behave, but there doesn't seem to be a way to enforce it. During this recent blitz of calls, I dialed *69 to determine the caller ID and this is what I got: 123-456-7890. Probably illegal for business and specifically collections groups to use fake numbers - but just how does one get them to STOP?

I've sent FCC and FTC complaints on various call abusers, but that doesn't seem to do much. I am the emergency contact for an elderly relative, so I feel I have to answer the phone each time. It's terrorizing to run for the phone in worry and get one of these neanderthal collectors.

This is another address, which is where a great deal of skip tracing is done - Northstar Technologies, LLC, 5807 S Garnett Road #L, Tulsa, Oklahoma 74146. The phone number is 918-307-0900 and the web-site is www.northstargt.com . They are associated with the New York Northstar Collections, but most of the employees doing skip tracing work for this harrassing debt collector comes out of the Tulsa office. One way Northstar is finding people at work is due to company web-sites. Many companies post their employees names and direct phone lines or extensions on web-sites. When Northstar begins a web search entering your name and city, your office information comes up in top searches with your name and work phone. Then, Northstar calls you are work and harrasses you on your direct line or calls someone else in the office to obtain information about you. You can thank the Tulsa office for this unethical tactic. The Tulsa office forwards the information to the New York office.

These companies are able to get names of family members through sites like Fast Data. As long as there is a relationship with you by those family members or their addresses and phone numbers they will call hoping to find someone that will asssist them. They ask if they know the person they are trying to collect from, then they ask if they want to help them by giving them thee person whose debit it is phone number. Once they talk to the family member they have established a relationship with them and they can call to collect the debit. They will keep calling family hoping to find someone who will pay. They will say they will come annd take everything they have which is against the law. This has to be done throught the court system. If that person is not the owner of that number DO NOT give them ANY information. Say wrong number and hang up. If they continue block the number but beware they will tag local numbers so as to trick you into giving information to them. If you do not know the number do not answer it Google it first then call it back if you need too. They can not call you at work once you ask them not to if you are not allowed to receive calls at work. If you are not sure you owe the debit ask them to cease contact by sending them a registered letter. In this letter state that you would like them to validate the debit by showing a hard copy of the note or anything else you may need like when, where, and who took out the debit. They have 30 to respond. Contact your credit reporting agencies and have an alert put on your credit then write a dispute placed on the account but only do this if it is a current debit not a zombie debit. Once you speak to them they have 5 business days to send you proof of the debit by mail. Be patient it takes time but it can be settled. Good Luck!
