Just need to vent...

Hello friends, I just needed to rant and rave for a few minutes.

Several weeks ago, with the support and confidence I gained from signing up here, I closed my checking account, sent letters to these evil PDL companies, set myself up on a budget and decided that I could and would re-take control over my life and finances. With a new found feeling of empowerment, I was feeling like I could take on anything.

I set up a new checking account, ready to guard the numbers with my life... no one would be getting my account and routing number ever again!! (Except for a few companies with "real" bills I must pay.)

Life seemed to be rolling along smoothly for the moment, I was expecting and ready for the PDL collectors to begin calling/harassing at any moment, but I wasn't scared. I could handle it!

Then, last Thursday, all hell broke loose. Nothing to do with the PDls, but my payroll lady here at work. I notified her 2 weeks ago that I had closed my old checking account and opened a new one. I sent the new routing and account numbers to her. (We have to have direct deposit at my work.) Anyway, three days before payday we were supposed to fax her our time cards - so I sent my card along with a copy of a voided check from my new account - with a note: PLEASE REMEMBER I HAVE A NEW ACCOUNT!

Side note: when I opened my new account, I notified my car insurance company, internet provider, credit card company, etc... I also told them to wait until after the 14th of the month to try to draw any payments, that's the day after my payroll is deposited. Well, here we are on the 15th and I get a call from the payroll lady, "OOOPS, I sent your check to your old account and it was returned to me." "I can't direct deposit another one, but I have someone coming over this afternoon with a paper check for you." GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!! I want to scream!!! I tried to call the companies that would have autodrafts coming out that day or the next, but they all said it was too late, they couldn't stop them from happening. I called my new bank, they were no help. So, here I sit now, the auto payments were returned, $20.00 NSF fee for 4 payments, I took my check to the bank to deposit (once I received it on Friday) - and apparently it was being "held" and was pending until today, so when the auto payments tried to run again yesterday the funds were not available and I got another 4 x $20.00 in fees. I tried to call the bank and tell them the whole story, but was told that I should have set up overdraft protection so that wouldn't happen. I am so frustrated.

It's like the clouds go away and things are looking up, then BANG!!!!! A huge clap of thunder and a bolt of lightning and here comes the rain again.

Thanks for letting me ramble. Like I said, I just had to vent, and I thought where better to do it then here.

That really sucks . . . . Have you talked to your employer? They could maybe write a letter saying it was their mistake and the bank may reverse the fees.

That person in payroll, and/or your company should be held responsible for all the overdrafts, etc. You made several efforts to notify them, as well as faxing them a reminder with your time worked.

Darc, go to your bank and get a copy of your overdrafts. Then bring it to the payroll dept. and tell them to look at what her mistake did to you and that they should pay the NSF charges AND write a letter to your bank and the companies that got their payments sent back that it was their error and not yours. Also if you get any fees from your bills that were returned then those amounts should be paid by your employer, just show them proof of what you are being charged for their mistake.
