Has anybody here dealt with Worker's Comp before??

I am having an issue with WC and they are making me paranoid as hell.

I just got my disability certificate from my doctor which states that my disability began on 12/21/05, so I will be getting back pay (hopefully) from then. That is a good thing.

HOWEVER, I found out that an "investigator", as she calls herself, has been going ot my ex's house looking for me. She left a card. The second time she came by there, she said that she wants me to give a deposition regarding my injury to "get the story straight" and so that I can be compensated for my injury. The "investigator" states that she works for Crum and Forster (they are the insurance carrier) and that I need to call her back.

Guys, I am scared! What does all of this mean? Should I really get an attorney?? I am freaking out and I do not want to call her back and get myself into trouble. Help me out guys Smile

P.S. I don't mean to sound so paranoid, but after dealing with shady collection agencies, it sometimes seems like everybody is out to get me, ya know? So I don't mean to sound like that...but honestly I thought helicopters were following me! LOL...just kidding

I had an investigator contact me from Altama when I hurt my back and had to give a deposition and she went to every appointment I had and kept telling the doctor to give me a cotizone shot and that would solve the problem. Fortunantly the doctors didn't listen to her. Get a lawyer to go every step of the way. Don't end up like I did and get nothing.

What a freak....if this chick thinks she is going to my appointments she is insane! I will look into getting a lawyer. The last thing I need right now is to get screwed.

Mary, nothing will happen like that. Get your attorney to straighten things up. Stay cool!

My husband is on w/c and has been for 3 years I have never heard of anyone coming to your house for anyting. You need to make sure you have an attorney and if you do give them the ladies card. I my state they can not contact you. My husbands w/c does not even know where we live anymore. The Attorney deals with all that stuff and do not do anthing without your attorney there. These w/c people are sometimes as bad as CA. Also Watch your back they will be out in the ditches watching you to make sure you are not doing anything. They will try to take pictures of you doing something and it does not matter what it is. I cannot stand w/c companys they suck

I think you are right...right now I can't do anything, my wrist is still in a splint and has been since April 10th, but I really need to be careful. I have seen shows on TV where people have had their pictures taken secretly by WC investigators or whatever. I think that's why I'm so freaked out! I will call attorney on Monday. Thanks for all the advice guys, I appreciate it Smile

We used to have an investigator sitting out in front of our house checing up on/spying on a lady that lived up the street. I talked to him once and asked him what he was doing and he said he was investigating this lady on a work comp claim and he asked me if I had ever seen her lift anything or do stuff. I don't even know the lady and no way was I getting involved. Mary as long as you're honest I'm sure you'll be fine. Good luck! We're all pulling for you.

Thanks Sue! I don't see why an investigator is looking for me, I mean damn, I really DID have surgery, and they really DID find problems with my wrist. I just find it hard to believe that an employee of the insurance carrier would look for me so that I can be "compensated". When has an insurance company actually WANTED to give out money?? LOL...I think that's what threw me off. Smile

workerscompensationinsurance.com. I have been in the WC system for over a year now, and this site has helped me in so many ways! IC's (insurance carriers)can in fact investigate IW's (injured workers), and they also can assign a nurse case manager to your case. I hope you have a lawyer, as this is key to move through the WC system successfully. Good luck, go to the site, it's my backbone.

Not a problem, and yes you do have a long road ahead of you....I'm right in the middle of it myself. What state are you from? I usually go in the main forum under the name "MM".

I'm from California. I don't know if that goes in my favor or not...

Here's my new issue: my physical therapy office has been trying to get a hold of my case worker to authorize more therapy visits, but they can't get a hold of him. So my appointment today was cancelled, along with all future appointments, until they get in contact with WC. So now I am stuck with extremely limited use of my dominant hand. This is pissing me off! As much as I hate...no, HATE physical therapy, I NEED it REGULARLY in order to get my functionality back. My hand is going to stiffen back up and the road ahead is just going to get longer. Sorry, just venting. Sad
