Announcement...Could be good...Could be bad...

Ok...So I posted in my bad news thread about my dog needing to be put to sleep and my job was ticking me off.

This has to do with my job.

I've taken the past couple weeks for vacation. (Much needed, at that) I still have this week on actual "vacation" but I made a decision today that's going to effect me greatly.

I did not announce this but to a couple of people, but I interviewed at a different job last week. It's a totally different type of job which I know I'll do fine with. I'm still going to be in sales, somewhat.

I interviewed at a company here that does inbound calls for many different companies. I interviewed with them last week and they thought I'd be good with their broadband internet company doing tech support. (even though I have NO clue about anything with broadband..lol But I can read a script.) About 10 mins before I was to leave for my second interview this morning, they called and asked if I would be interested instead in working for a travel company they represent. I said, "Sure, sounds like fun" and went to that facility. They did a "trick" interview and asked me about where I have traveled. When I said "My favorite destination I've traveled to was Honolulu, HI" they interviewer said, "I've never been there, what's it like?" Well, I was off and running..lol She said, "You're fantastic, I need you here." and offered me the job.

I'm taking a pretty significant pay cut. But it's closer to my house, and is a 40 hour work week, instead of the 50 I'm working at the store. The lady I'm going to be working with is a sweetheart, and she assured me that my "style" I sell with is just fine. They don't make us follow a certain program. As long as I'm doing my job, it's cool. My store has a big problem with people being individuals and wants us to sell to their "S.C.O.R.E. program which DOES NOT work. And they send in "spies" from corporate to grade you on your presentation. If you don't say, "The comfort test saves you time and ensures your success" in THOSE words, you get docked 10 points. Screw that.

I've never really voiced these problems here before. But it's just really been working on me the last month or so. I really dislike my boss. And working 10-8 and 8-8 on Saturdays really can suck the life right out of you. Something had to give. So I called today and let him know that I will not be returning next week and trying to talk me out of it would just be a waste of both of our time. At this place I'll be working 10-6 with Tuesdays and Wednesdays off. Set schedule, I show up, do my job, and then get the heck out of there.

I'm paying ALL of my bills out of this weeks pay, which will include my vacation time and I'll get paid at my new job on July 8. So that's going to be the hardest part, going almost 1 month with no pay. But I've done it harder with the PDL's eating my checks, so if I can survive THAT I can survive this, right?

YES Jessi YOU can. It is scary switching jobs though. Less hours a week, less drive time you have to take all of that into consideration. I wish you good luck!

Thanks guys! Smile I'll be ok, I'm sure. I'm used to seeing bigger paychecks, but I'll get used to it.

Jessi, don't look back at your previous job. It's just gone by. You never told us the discomfort you had been going through. You know, job satisfaction is the most important thing at work. If you are not comfortable at a place where you spend most of time of your daily life, it's no use staying there. Grab the new one for a change!! Hope this is the one you were always looking for. I wish you all the best Smile

Good for you Jess...Let me tell you something though:
I recently "switched" positions internally at my hospital. I took a very large paycut to do this and held my breath and jumped in.
I've been with them for 3 months now and I really don't regret it.
I also did this in the middle of my pdl messes and was a mess myself. But I have great health insurance and paid time off now, something I didn't have at my previous position.
Sometimes ya just have to take the plunge and full steam ahead!
Congrats to you and good luck, my friend.

Jessi---Sometimes the money is not worth the aggravation and your frame of mind is more important. I teach in a private, Christian school and could definitely make more money in a public school. However, there are so many more advantages to being in a small private school than dealing with all of the garbage public school teachers have too, I could write reams about it, but trust me in my situation it is worth it. I am glad you are going to have better hours and less commute time. Good for you.

Jessi, Congratulations on the new job. I've done the same thing before in that I went from working an 8-5 M-F job to working 9pm to 730 am 7 days on 7 days off in addition to taking a $4 hr pay cut. The paycheck hurt for awhile but it was so worth it to get out of a bad situation. You be so glad to not have the daily stress. I hope this all works extremely well for you.
