This is indeed collection agent for Washington Mutual. I also got a call and they would not identify themselves. They asked to speak to someone and when I told them they weren't there, They asked to speak to their spouse. When I paused because the person isn't married, they hung up.
I started getting calls from the number (800) 897-5276 too. They keep calling over and over - several times a day - and never leave a message. Would an auto dialer really do that?
Also, I found someone online who was getting calls from this number about a late payment. Should I be concerned about identity fraud?
swan, check the latest copy of your credit report from all the three bureaus. You will immediately know if there is any suspicious account opened in your name. If that happen, you will have to activate a fraud alert with the bureaus immediately. First, monitor your credit report thoroughly
By signing up for counseling session, your provided details (Name, Email ID and Phone No.) will be forwarded to the company advertising on the DebtCC. However, you have no obligation to use their services.
Some creditors and collection agencies refuse to lower the pay off amount, interest rate, and fees owed by the consumer.
Creditors/collection agencies can make collection calls and file lawsuits against the consumers represented by the debt relief companies.
Debt relief services may have a negative impact on the consumer's creditworthiness and his overall debt amount may increase due to the accumulation of extra fees.
The amount which the consumer saves with the use of debt relief services can be regarded as taxable income.
