YES you may join the forum...but I think the DCC Programs are currently only for those living in the USA.

Hi Diane

Welcome to the forums. No matter, your accounts are late, debt consolidation program will be a fruitful decision to bring all the defaulted accounts in the 'current' status and ultimately offer lower repayments towards your debt.

After all the accounts are paid in full, the creditors will report your accounts as 'Paid in Full' to the credit bureaus and you will be able to acquire your credit worthiness in the future.

Debt consolidation program will also minimize the total amount of your debt by eliminating all the financial charges and the late fees so that you are comforted with the reduced amount to be paid.

I believe initially it does have an impact on your credit report, but after making monthly on time payments over time you should see some improvement on your scores. Other's will be along to advise you that are more familiar with this than I am.

I agree with Ladybug. The lady at Chase (*shudder*) said that in consolidation program the card will be closed-that would hurt my credit (that & being WAY behind would hurt combined). But my counselor said that after you make payments, the accounts are marked current & after you make regular payments it should be reflected on your credit report.

Sorry I missed you guest!

I don't know if its with EVERY consolidation company, but the one I'm with-here's how it went. I entered the program. I called Discover & told them I'm entering into the program. They took the information. About 2 or 3 weeks later I get a letter from them saying that since they were notified that I can't pay my bill & I've entered into a program (I think they called it "3rd party payment arrangement) they are closing my card. I called my consolidation company & they said this was typical and its going to happen to my other cards in the program.

The plan we worked out was before I called Discover-so they could figure out what they were going to pay Discover & what they are going to pay Chase. The amount I send to the consolidation company COULD change-that's only if a creditor wants more money as a payment.
