Fraudulent free credit report sites

I just wanted to warn everyone about a growing threat to our credit. There seems to be an explosion of websites that claim that they can get you a free credit report.

It is estimated that 50 impostor websites are actively luring customers to phony sites. These sites usually end up charging a fee. Ironically, it is the same fee that the three credit bureaus charge in order to obtain their credit reports. Do you know why? Well apparently, they are run by the three credit bureaus.

According to yahoo, A WPF investigation identified 96 known misspelled, registered domains -- 28 of which belong to Experian and other credit services such as MyFico at FairIsaac. These sites try to exploit errors in typing to deliver you to a different site with services you have to pay for.

Some of these impostor sites actually claim to be a specific site , while others take advantage of the typing error to forward information on you to search engines or advertising partners of other affiliates.

So be careful.

debbra47, consumer protection office and other local government agencies also have the list of all the companies operating in your city. You can pull information about a particular company from there too. Also, local police station in that area will definitely have complaints(if any)

debra that is a very good idea to look into possible jobs before you take a job. And, to Ben thankyou for telling us where else we can find this kind of information. there's so many companies out there that are scams. A family member of mine got arrested and charged with a felony cause she did a great job for the company she worked for. Come to find out they were running things illegally so since she was one of the top 5 in that company. She got the charges while one of the managers walked. It's sad that cause you do a good job at work you take the fall for the company.

It is very necessary to know the working environment of a place. Not knowing about the work culture in a newly joined place might put you in deeper problems if luck is harsh on you. Everyone should be suspicious and do proper researches before you invest your time and money.

The only site that consumers should be obtaining credit reports would be www.annualcreditreport.com or each individual site www.transunion.com www.equifax.com and www.experian.com

If not the sites then you can call in the id theft at:

Experian 888-397-3742
Equifax 800-685-1111
TransUnion 800-916-8800

Be sure to visit the FTC site www.ftc.gov
