I wanted to provide everyone with tips on how we can avoid being taken by the phony free credit report sites. They are everywhere. They send us spam, they pop up in pop up windows, they are on web advertisements. It seems as if it is almost impossible to escape the reach of these phony websites. So I have compiled a few tips from bankrate .com that could protect us from these schemers.

1.If is it free, you shouldn't have to pay. Sounds like common sense right. But many people fall for the trap. These websites claim that they are free but they request your credit card number. As soon as you see this warning sign, run away.

2. Don't respond to ads that come in your junk mail. This is a common way that these phony companies try to reach us. So, it is in your best interest to ignore the junk that does come through your junk mail inbox. Also, ignore the annoying pop up ads. They are all trouble.

3. Also, to reduce the email solicitations, don't give out your email address to these websites. Because the problem would only get worse. The free ones provided by our government do not require us to give our email addresses.

4.finally, be sure that that you are on this specific website:https://www.AnnualCreditReport.com

Do not misspell the name because the impostors are waiting to lure those who type in inaccurate web addresses

that is very true, you also have to make sure you are on a secured site, and that all of your spyware programs are up to date...

Hmm, the misspelling of the address.... sneaky sneaky!

With equifax and transunion you have to pay a small fee to immediate viewing over the internet - at least in canada. Otherwise if you request by mail its free.
