Katie, I was mistaken earlier when I said I hadnt received anything from the Florida Attorney General's office. I did get their Affidavit and mailed it off today. Anyways, I would be more than happy to join in on the telephone conferences if they want. However, my lawsuit against EC is being filed next Monday, can I still participate?

Katie,
I've mailed my affidavit back to Summer this week. I would be more than happy to join in on the telephone conferences.

I dont believe that you can participate if you are already involved in another legal matter regarding the same parties.
I would ask Summer.

joe i totally agree with you. ive read some of the post on this site & there are actually people wanting money back from a legit bill that they owed. they are the reason bankrupcy rules are changing.so many bogus lawsuits benefit scummy lawyers & insurance co...bad apples make it bad for the real victims. if i wanted to shake off a bill i would also jump on this bandwagon. lol

I had no problem paying my bill, and don't expect a dime back but no one deserves to be threatened and harrased to this extent. That is the point of this forum, though I do agree there are people who jump on this bandagon that are obviously trying to skirt the actual debt. If you are responsible for it, than pay it. If we all managed our lives like responsible adults this type of thing wouldn't exist. Both sides have valid points.

JEN, let me exemplify this for a wider knowledge...The creditors take legal actions against the consumers who do not pay their debts. This is the reason wage garnishment, judgments and other legal actions occur in the law books. This means that the legitimate bills cannot be avoided and the consumers have to face it.

But on the other hand, not all companies work within the legal lines. Therefore, lawsuits are filed and actions are taken against not all but some.

I think that you should not have this feeling that people on this board are escaping from their debt. Instead, you should offer some of the better ways to make their repayment process easier through your experience.

I hope you understand.

Ben

I would have no problem paying the 2 original amounts of loans I owe in amounts of $300 each but to pay $600 or $700 each is ridiculous. I'll hold out until the Florida Attorney handles things.

Joe,
Not that I owe you any explanation...but I paid my bill and I paid more than 3 times what the original amount was. I have no probelm with that, nor do I expect any return of funds. What I do have a problem with is the way that Ellis handled things. We have laws for a reason and no one should be threatened with going to jail, having someone pick you up at work...etc. There are legal guidelines that prevent collectors from acting like this, which is why Ellis is in a suit anyway. Had they acted within the linits of the law, quite frankly, we wouldn't be having this conversation.

Katie,
The only legal filing I'm involved with is the one with Summer. Do you think I will be able to participate, or is what you are talking about something else?

Michelle iam not defending ellis at all. if proven guilty then so be it. years ago i tried 3rd party collections so i can feel both sides of the spectrum.there are some that understand defaulting on a loan, collection cost..late fees ect..but then there are some with no sense of responsibilty, looking for a free ride with no intent of ever paying anything. stay away from short term loans with huge intrest rates.learn to save and/or budget or pick up a 2nd job. some of these people have real issues. drugs & low lifes claiming to be abused & harrassed.lets be real. lol

Joe, you make agood point. I myself defaulted on one loan simply because my deposit at the bank was a late post and the debit from the company hit it before clearance. It was in collection before I knew it. Big wake up call. I sold some personal items of value to pay the few remaining loans I had off in full. I can not tell you how much better I sleep at night because I don't have these short term loans hanging over my head. People make mistakes, learn from them is my motto. Pay your bills and find other ways to make ends meet. If you can't afford to pay cash you can't afford it. Use credit wisely and it can be your best freind. Abuse it and it can become your worst enemy and you have only yourself to blame. Thanks for putting a realistic view point forward.

Joe you are absolutely right. Those who have no sense of responsibility, looking for a free ride with no intent of ever paying anything will definitely have tough times in their future. I myself won't favor them and will consider them to be ignorant.

But, not all can be put in that deck. I believe, if not all, but 95% of the people over here in this forum feel the responsibility to pay their past debt. I myself am visiting this forum since quite a few months and I know the tendency of the people here. That is why I have such a strong voice to say this.
