Hi Desiree
Welcome to the forums. You just do not worry about believing it because it is a kind of threatening that has been applied on mostly every consumer by the said company.
If the company is collecting a debt from you, they should validate it before you agree to pay them. This will also help you to know that the company is legally holding your debt and the money will be definitely going to your account.
Also, a debt validation letter will provide all the necessary details about your accounts, interest calculations, SOL period and the copy of the agreement letter stating that the creditors have sold the debt to the said collection agency.
If all these documents are not produced, it does not legally force you to pay on any amount that they claim. Moreover, it is most likely that the money will not go towards your debt account also.
By the way, do you know all the updates about Ellis Crosby? One single statement to sum up everything is that they are out of business. This makes them legally not permissible to collect the debt from you. Any forceful method used on you to recover the debt is a legal violation of the law and you can file your complaints against them.
