They called my boss today and said that he was a federal investigator and they were investing me for fraud.

God, these people are horrible.
There has to be some legal and criminal recourse again these people?

Katherine makes very good points about the Ellis Crosby company-and she's right about pretending to be lawyers and threating that the police will pick you up the day they call if you don't pay. The police told me that if you were under arrest, they would just show up. They wouldn't call. I hope that Ellis and Crosby debt collecting, threating liers will be out of business if we all speak up!

quote="Katherine"]I had gotten some payday loans, and i was unable to repay them as quickly as the loan companys would like. The intrest rate is 600% or more!
Ellis and Crosby says they are lawyers ( when they are just a collection agency) and they have been threatning to pick me up within an hour, if i cant pay right away. ELLIS and Crosby thinks i am a HABITUAL offender because the loan comapnys are screwing me. But what they dont realize is that these loan companys are charging extra if you dont pay ontime. My orginal amount was $200, Ellis and Crosby racked it up to $560, just so they could file a suit aginst me. Its like they are doing it on purpose. GOOD THING I WORK FOR A LAWYER, and i have been informed.
THERE IS NO DEBT COLLECTION PRISON!
Ellis and Crosby has threatned to make me loose my job, and talk to my boss about it. In texas they cannot garnish wages without a court order. And they have totally violated a law. [/quote]

I received a call today saying that I owe $755.00 for a payday loan. I told them I don't have the money and they said if I don't pay by 3:00pm they will come to my work and have me picked up. I told them to stop harrassing me at work and I will report them to the Attorney Generals Office if they don't stop calling me and that I am aware of the fdcpa and then they hang up.

How do I stop the harrassement calls?

Default Payday Loans

Does anyone know what are the laws for collecting on payday loans in Mississippi. I have a real good friend that got a couple of payday loans online. She has defaulted on the loans but she has been trying to make payment arrangements, however, she is being told that the amount that she is able to pay isn't enough. They are telling her they are going to file charges against her, etc. What exactly can be done to her. Does anyone know what the laws are for Mississippi? Also, one person from the collection agency told her that she wrote a bad check. SHe told him she never wrote a check he then went on to tell her that the I.P.P address is her signature like she actually wrote a check. Any info will be helpful.
Thanks

Default Ellis Crosby Associates

I like the rest of you have gotten mixed up in payday loans. Last Thursday I received a call from Investigator Sanchez stating that I owed her company $605.00. She would not tell me anthing about the company I owed the money to & told me that she needed the money sent to her by 4pm that day. When I told her that I did not have it nor did I have anyone I could borrow it from she told me that she would have me arrested. When she asked me how much I could pay I replied maybe $100.00. Her response was that her client would never accept that. I told her that I got paid the following day she told me to fax her a promisary note stating I would send her $300.00 via money gram the next day. After I hung up from her I called an accountant friend & he told me not to send the note b/c then I would be legally bound but insted pay her what I could. Legally she has to accept what I give her & cannot arrest me if I am paying her. On top of that it would take at least 30 days for her to even get a warrant. So I never faxed the promisary note & the next day I sent her money gram for 50.00. Today she called me at work again. I told her that I sent money on Friday & that I would pay her again when I got paid again. She asked how much. I told her 25.00 to 50.00 was all I could afford. She said that it was not enough & she was going to return my previous payment & go through with the warrant. I hung up on her. She cannot even tell me what companies I owe money to. She did tell me though that my balance is now $1100.00. The is almost double what it was a few days ago. What does this suspension mean & how does it affect me? Do I need to give her money as long as they are suspended? I have had enough of this investigato & am going to report her for harrasment. Why not? She has already told me I have committed fraud. These payday loan companies set you up to fail. Stay away from them!!! It is a very dear lesson learned.

I did the unfortunate thing of taking out a total of 14 payday loans. After the extremly high fees charged, I could not pay all of the companies back on time. Two of my payday loans were sent to Ellis and Crosby. Someone by the name of J P Henson called me at 12:00 noon and said that if I did not send them $1,100.00 by 1:00 pm that day, someone from the District Attoney's office would come up to my job, arrest me and take me away in handcuffs in front of my co-workers, and then take me to jail. He proceeded to say that I could also be deported, I guess because I have an accent and my wages would be garnished. By the end of the conversation I was literally in tears. I did not have $1,100.00 so I sent him $25.00 which is all I could afford. After receiving the $25.00, he called me back to let me know that he would be sending the $25.00 back. I also asked if I could have a payment arrangement and he said no, and that they will be taking further action and he hung up. I am not sure what to do now, but perhaps I should be seeking legal counsel. Final note to anyone thinking about taking out a payday loan, DON't, this will send you into financial hell.

Worried in Pennsylvania.

Victoria, please read my post from 7/21. My situation is identical to yours. I have received advice from numerous people telling me that they legally must accept whatever you give them. There is no way for them to return a money gram payment. I cannot believe the things this company is telling people!!!! It is harassment

Hi Amy

You don't have to worry about anything regarding Ellis Crosby. At this point of time, do not enter into any payment plan with them otherwise your money will go wasted.

You should definitely file a complaint against them at the FTC and the state attorney general office and request for some immediate action. These illegal activities committed by Ellis Crosby need to be stopped very soon.

Ok just so I have this completely correct, I am not to give them any money? I am not stating that I do not owe this debt, I just do not appreciate the way this being handled. I do have every intention of reporting them. How do I find out what companies are working through them?

Yes, you do not have to pay anything to them at this point. Because they are undergoing legal surveillance and your money will also not get deposited into their account.

In future, if any company claims for any payment from you for your past debt, make sure that you ask for a debt validation. This letter is completely legal and the collectors are required to present your accounts in the right way. After reviewing, if you find your accounts properly placed, then you can move ahead and arrange for a payment plan.

If you have a doubt regarding your account shown by the collection agency, you have the legal right to dispute it and ask for verification.

Also you can pull your latest credit report from the three bureaus and see the latest standing of your credit.

Ben, Thank you for the advice. I have filed complaints with both the Federal Trade Commission & the Pennsylvania Attorney General's office. I have also completed a debt dispute letter to be sent to Ellis Crosby Associates. I also plan to send them a cease & desist letter telling them that they cannot contact me at work. Know of anyone in Pennsylvania who may be in the process of filing a lawsuit? If so please let me know. I cannot afford to do it alone but would be willing to do so if multiple people were involved.

Don't worry Amy, you are not alone. People in large number have been agitated by the illegal actions of Ellis Crosby and complaints have piled up in the district office of each state.

If you visit the local court, you will find cases in large numbers against them.

I am sure that we are about to see immediate action very soon.
