To guest maybe you should call the company that he said that you owed the money to and verify it. Before you call anyone. Most Canadian debt is borrowed from loan places that you borrowed money from. So if you have any questions call the cash store or money mart whatever it may be. And they will tell you that they forwarded your debt to a company because you haven't paid

Paul Kuperstein's office never leaves any particulars on voicemail - usually just idle threats. They wait for you to call them back then when you ask for validation they use the tactics stated in this forum.

Think back carefully Guest whether or not you owe anything to anyone and contact the company directly before calling these people back. It may save you a headache, the possibility of being threatened by them and falling prey to sending an absurb amount - as may be the case.

My boyfriend and I work at the same place...different shift.......This Paul Kupferstein and Associates phoned our WORK...and left a message saying it was urgent for my boyfriend to get a hold of him!
We have no clue what this is about......please advise!!!

Don't send / do anything until they provide you with validation as to why they are calling you.

I have had recent dealings with a Mr. Sargent. Actually he called my father and hasrassed the hell out of him making claims like: "Tom is going to be sued", "it is regarding a legal matter". My father naturally wanted to know why he was calling, Mr.Sargeant correctly did not tell him, my father in turn advised him that he would supply no info, to which Mr Seargent replied "Fine, then I will tell the Judge you are being unco-operative". WTF? Who is this porch monkey and at what point did he think it was legal to contact a third party and threaten to implicate him in a court case to which I have received no summons, or a validation letter for that matter. Being an ex-collections supervisor, this burns my ass, it's because of idiots like him ALL bill collectors get a bad rap. The fdcpa was developed to prevent morons from from being morons, and if he were in my department i would fire his ass in a second. My intentions are to nail his ass to the wall, and that of the Sleazebag attorney in that office that allows this kind of illegal and irresponsible behaviour to exist.
Of course when I called Mr.Sargent, he categorically denies these statements or threats.....sorry Mr.Sargeant, if your asking me to believe you or my father, you lose. As a result of his stupidity, I have been skip tracing any and all dirt I can find on this JAckass and his company, for any of those interested or who have actually received letters from these people regarding the debt, keep an eye on the mailing address, Paul Kupferstien was disciplined, fined and warned by the Law Society of Upper Canada on May 9th of 2006 for providing a false mailing address. 620 Alden Rd, Suite 208 Markham ON or 4981 HWY 7 East, Unit 12A, Suite 267 Markham ON are both prohibited addresses according to the LSUC. I recommend following suit, as I have called the LSUC Monitoring and Enforcement Department and reported these two additional addresses to which the agent helping me was extremely interested. She suggested I file a complaint online and in writing. Regardless of wether or not anything concrete transpires, they are required to investigate him to the fullest because of repeat offence. I have also followed through with the Attorney General's Office, FTC, Consumer Affairs, filed complaints with each online and in writing, as well as my father and my mother. For those who may respond to this in defence of Mr.Sargent or Paul's Office in general, my argument is not with the fact that they called to collect on a debt (on which I have no validation letter to this date) it's the irrsponsible and blatently illegal approach to the collection of this apparent debt, and there is absolutely no Justification for this manner. If I owe the money, I will pay it, bottom line, but hell will freeze over before I turn a penny over to the telephone tough guy known as "Mr. Steven Sargeant".

Thank God for you guys!! Same story here, I was called by our Mr. Sargeant and threatened with lawsuits. I cannot wait to call him back tomorrow and tell him what I think of him. This is of course, after I call the attorney general and others...

So I've just contacted the Paul Kupferstein that is registered with the Law Society of Upper Canada. I've left a message with them regarding the "strange" coincedence with their name and different number. So hopefully I get a message from the right lawyer and let him know that someone is using his name to falsely practice law to which the Law society will get a complaint from me regarding this issue and the CashStore will get a nasty letter from my lawyer. I can't believe they sold my personal information!

Guest, your personal information was not sold to anyone. You borrowed money from the CashStore, you didn't pay it back and now your file is with the Law Office. I urge you to have your lawyer send that nasty letter. If you can afford a lawyer why can't you afford to pay back the CashStore? The Law Office would be happy to discuss your case with your lawyer.
