I am a mother of 3 and recently my ex-husband filed child support. I was ordered to pay a substancial amount each month, but recently my financial situation has dramatically changed. I have fallen behind on a few payments what can i do?

You will need to contact the court right away. Child support payments are based on your income, and adjustments can be made if you show proof of financial changes. It is very important that you do this right away!! You do not want to get garnished on this, since a fed debt is NOT capped at 25% in any state and you would definitely be paying more than you would if you contact them voluntarily.

You need to follow that advice that fins has given you. I don't know how easy it will be to go into court to prove that you are making less money than before but good luck.
I maybe incorrect in saying this as I am not too familiar with child support but I think it can be difficult to have your child support reduced as my sister is going through this with my nephew's father. He is wanting his child support reduced and so far he hasn't had any luck in convincing the judge that he can't afford it since he is paying the same amount for his other two children to a different mother.
I hope everything gets taken care of for you I know it is a stressful time in life right now. Good luck
