Worried about the interim process

I signed up for debt consolidation. I am confident it will be our salvation in the world of finance.

BUT I am worried to death about what will happen in the mean time. In order to come up with the required monies, I didn't pay many of our creditors this month. We are starting to get calls and we are really stressed. How long will this go on? When will the dust settle and everything be sunshine and roses? What can we do in the meantime to stop the calls at home and work?

Hi ttthayden
Welcome to the forums

You have taken the right step towards getting debt free. Ask your creditors that you have enrolled in the debt consolidation program. Please inform them that their dues will be paid off very soon and that the debt consolidation company in which you have enrolled is taking care of your debts.

If they try to harass you over phone then please get yourself registered in the National Do Not Call Register. In addition if they try to make any sort of contact then you can lodge a complain in FTC. So please keep yourself calm.

Please feel free to write back with further queries

Thank you for your encouragement. How does one register in the National Do Not Call Register? Is there a link or address listed on this site?

Thanks again!

Hi ttthayden

Welcome to the forums. Before the beginning of the debt consolidation program, the creditors were calling you because they wanted to recover their money. They kept harassing you for this reason so that you start paying them in anyway.

Now that you have entered in the debt consolidation program, the consultant working in your program will take this opportunity to interact with your creditors and it is his responsibility to assure your creditors that they will be paid in full. Thus, there is no reason of making further calls to you in anyway.

Please inform the consultant working in your program to take action if he has not got in touch with your creditors till now.

Following is the link of "Do Not Call" provided by the Federal Trade Commission where you can register yourself for escaping such harassing calls.

ttthayden,

Collectors dont need to go by the DNC List. What you need to do is send each creditor a cease and desist certified letter. They must comply with it. There is one under the Do It Yourself Section. Here it is pasted

Letter to the debt collecting agency asking them to stop contacting you

Your name
Your street address
Your city

Date

RE: Account no.

Dear Sir/Madam,

This is to request you to CEASE and DESIST from your efforts of collecting debt payments on the above referred account. I would like to work with the original creditor of the account rather than collection agencies.

You are hereby instructed in accordance with the federal and state laws, to stop all collection efforts immediately or face legal sanctions.

PAY DUE ATTENTION TO THIS LETTER..

Cordially,

that letter corresponds with a 3rd party lender, so what are we supposed to send to the original lender who is calling and harrassing after we have enrolled with a consolidation co.?

also, Toni, I would try to let your consolidation company handle calls you are receiving. Just let them know, and they can probably take care of it. I've been with T&C for a week now, and am loving it!
