I will try to get them to send me validation of the debt or I will go to the original company in which they say they represent and see if the debt is real. The person I was living with at the time may or may not have paid this debt. Thank you for your advice.

RLK,
It could be helpful if you confirm about the debt with the original creditor. Also try to settle your account with OC, this could be easier.
Visit this thread where a similar situation is discussed:

( I assume ‘kfk' and ‘RLK' are different identity, )

Actually kfk and RLK are different people but are discussing the same situation. Kfk is a relative and was speaking in my behalf.

Hi RLK,
Nice to hearing from you. send them DV through CMRRR and keep the copies of all your correspondences to them. It will help you to approach them legally.

Has anyone received "Focus offers pre-collection letters" ? Sounds like FOCUS Receivables Management, LLC Company Doesn't do much of anything in Writing.

Guest,
Have you received this? What exactly is written there in this letter? Please share your experience here, so that someone can find some help from it in future.

FOCUS is a collection agency representing numerous creditors. If they are calling you, it means that you either owe money or your information has been given to them. Chances are you owe money. If you owe money, why not pay it instead of wasting time on this site trying to figure out how you can dodge the debt.

I understand that fraud does occur, but about 95% of the time the debts are legitimate. Pay your bills and they will never call you. Dodge your bills and they will try to locate you so that you can fulfill your obligation. Pretty simple huh? No lets quit the B.S. on the forum and either confirm if it is fraud (file police report) or pay up.

Sounds to me like you are one of those jerks that work for the CA's that do not know how to treat people.

If the debts are legitimate for 95% of time, then FTC would have made certain rules for debtors instead of collection agencies as only 5% of CAs are breaking laws (according to your statistics, Debt Free).

As per I know, pre-collection letters are sent to their clients. It's a client-service and do not include consumers. Any more info from others?

You MUST send these people a letter to stop them from calling you. I have been getting FIVE phone calls a day for a debt that has been paid in full. I can only assume they got duped by another collection agency or aren't getting correct information from the original creditor. At any rate, they were also trying to get me to give them my banking information to take care of this. I told them I hadn't gotten anything in the mail from them to indicate that they were servicing this debt and he got really short with me ... told me we had to take care of it TODAY or there would further collection action. What does THAT mean? More phone calls? So I sent a dispute letter today (certified, of course) and we'll see what happens. I verbally asked them to stop several times during the course of my phone call with them yesterday, but apparently, according to the law it has to be in writing. So, we'll see. I'll report back.

Threats...ugh! I would recommend keeping a list of everything involved here...dates that letters are sent, threats made, date and time of phone call. That way if they continue to break the law, you will have a written account of all the nonsense. Please do keep us informed, and feel free to join this free community as a member. We value everybody's input, including yours!

I just spoke to someone on the board of directors about these calls, the Bill Stron guy who's home number is listed a few pages back. He sounded very helpful and not at all agitated that I called him at 7am, lol.
