If you take the time to read the posts, I believe the problem with Sonic is the company is unethical and operates illegally in the majority of the states. A person can have the best paying job and yet fall upon hard times. Bad things happen to good people.

Hey Guest,
If your company was on the up and up, why is it getting kicked out of several states? Ever think about that one? Maybe because you're not following state laws?? What do you say to that? |

For real?
I can't believe people are bad mouthing a company because they are aggressive when they try to collect money they lent out that was promised to be repayed. I'll tell you what, next time you don't get paid for something how about I'll start bad mouthing you.

Bad mouth away. I don't believe the complaints are about having to payback something borrowed but the ILLEGAL tactics used to get repayment and misrepresentation of being licensed and conducting business (also illegal) I think it is a sick, twisted, sadistic mind that gets their jollies by using illegal threats and intimidation to take money from somebody. And by the way, it's called extortion, also illegal. But I suppose you will have some smart alec comment to make. So let the bad mouthing begin, it is fun, juvenile, but fun.

Yeah, let the games begin...
First off, noone held a gun to anyone's head to get them to loan with Sonic, that much is true. But read the posts on this site, and read about some of the tactics that have been used by Sonic and other collectors! There are accounts of people being told that they would be arrested and that their supervisors would be told about their debt--which could cause them to be fired. If I was collecting this would be the last thing I would do, because then I would never get paid, right? Most people, myself included are decent people who want to pay their debts and make mistakes--and are guilty of falling into hard times. Give people a break--and remember, it could be you! |

I'm with Steelers--and how ethical is it to have to pay $1600 to payback an $800 loan? These are the types of tactics that Sonic uses, for starters--and is one reason why they are being kicked out of more and more states.

Bring it on! Sonic is one of the worst at stealing peoples hard earned money, harassing on the phone, using illegal tactics to collect. They violate every state law in regards to licensure and usury laws. They loan more than what the state the borrower lives in and loans in states that pdls are illegal. Trying to enforce a wage assignment that is strictly voluntary, then throws a big ass fit when it get revoked. So if you want to start bad mouthing, go right ahead.

Sonic Payday, Ecare Contact Centers, PRL Direct, etc...
The company uses the names: Sonic Payday, PRL Direct, Cash Transfer Centers, and PayDay Avenue...They all fall under the NDG Group of Companies and the call centers are called ECare Contact Centers.
Please note: There threats are meaningless. If they tell you they are going to Wage Assign you all you have to do is write/fax them a letter stating you REVOKE the wage assignment. Then call your bank and you can discuss with them how to remove the companies ability to ACH Debit your account. NOTE: This company has not nor will not ever sue...They barely effect your credit if at all. The company is run by a men named Paul Ash in Winnipeg and Peter Ash in Surrey. The President is a lady named Kim DeThomas in Winnipeg. The reason the lenders name keeps changing is so that they can fly under the radar of the Attorney Generals office by not showing high volumes of loans. Note: Their name changes and they won't take on new clients under the name but will maintain the old ones. If you have had a problem with your loan please note: 1. If you revoke the wage assignment they can not send it to your employer. 2. If you advise them that they are to contact you by mail only (simply state:Cease and Desist calling me) they can not call you. 3. Also tell your employer/payroll person that they will be calling because they will call and verify your employment, this may include an EMail to your employer stating you have an outstanding balance. Don't sweat it, tell your employer it will be handled then revoke there wage assignment by sending a fax to them, your employer will not hear from them again. 4. Sit back and wait for a couple months and a legitimate collection agency may call and then simply make payment arrangements to split the loan into easier payments. NOTE: You will not be sued so don't worry. |

Big Tip:
Thanks for the info, very interesting post! A question: where did you get it--and did you used to work for Sonic? I have been paying them for about a year and got to where I got my balance down to $16 per Universal Fidelity--and just got another bill for $791! I am not paying a penny of this until I get a validation letter and am in the process of reporting Sonic to the California AG's office. When I called Universal Fidelity, I was told I had only made one payment, but I have copies of checks front and back showing payments of $1100 to Sonic. I think I'm being scammed! Your thoughts? |

Sonic
I have had similar experiences with Sonic. I am in California where they have a cease and desist order against them. I spoke with an attorney and the Head of Corp for CA and both told me to not pay them. That they can't do much to me. What it would cost them to get their money is not worth the amount of money I owe them. I did not pay them. It has been 4 months and I have not heard a peep. The contract is null and void as they are doing business ilegally. The CSR was aware of this order when I told him that I knew. They threatened me with the collections, but did not do anything. The CSR actually told me that they could not go after my wages. They know that they are doing business ilegally.
