Carolyn,

I would contact Lexington Law at lexingtonlaw.com. They are helping me with credit repair and are pretty good.

Hi burrell_30

Welcome to the forums. You can consider consolidation programs to clean your charge off accounts.

Although charge off account staying in collection is considered as a negative remark in your credit report, it will be viewed for a period of 7 years. But you should concentrate on bringing the following accounts current and completing the payments in order to improve your credit worthiness.

Your credit ratings will also show inclination after the payments are done in full to the said accounts and the debt consolidation will offer better options to ease your payment process.

The consultant will negotiate to reduce the amount of your debt and thus offer you suitable payment options according to your present financial situation.

You will be benefited by the continuous counseling and budgeting programs offered to you all along in the program and it will also help you to make wise financial decisions.

Regards
Roxette

PostPosted: Mon Sep 05, 2005 10:48 am Subject: Ex-husband took on debt but never paid

Help! My ex-husband consolidated mutual accounts before we divorced. The judge split our debt and he was given the debt in the consolidated agreement. I had two cards in that consolidation that were suppose to be paid. I started to receive letters from the companies that he defaulted on the consolidation agreement and they are going to report my debt as unpaid and in collections. I am going to pay both cards off but how can I send info to the reporting agencies of the problem? I have been struggling for over a year to raise my credit score. It's finally up to 571 which is a huge improvement. However ,I'm afraid because of his issue the score will come back down. What can I do?

Hahardy, you can send a letter to your creditors explaining the present situation and your willingness to pay the debt. If you can convince them that you will be paying towards your debt regularly, they will not report negatively to the credit bureaus.

However, if they have done the damage, it will be shown in your credit report. You can pull your latest credit report from the three bureaus and check the status of this account.

Also, you can enroll for a professional counseling in this website to know your other options. It is entirely upon the creditors and the consultant will help you in making fruitful decisions.

Please never post your real first and last name, most especially never together. DJB's and CA's know where to find these boards, and they are sure to find you here. I'd ask a mod to remove your last name in your post. Sad

I wouldn't pay a dime to anyone to do mine. And paying off CO's will not improve your credit scores, unfortunatley. Sad

Hello Carol:

Lexington Law is good but they’ve been sued several times. Operation Payback was a Federal-State Crackdown on Credit Repair Fraud ftc.gov/opa/1996/04/credlst.htm There is also creditforum.org/showthread.php?t=152

While most companies bleed you item by item, they INCLUDE EVERYTHING FOR 1 PRICE. You cant beat that. To add to the pot, to date they have not been sued and, they are listed with the BBB. No other company can say that.

With a score of less than 500 the fastest way to increase your score is to decrease debt. Not just any debt. credit card debt. Get the debt to less than half of your credit limit.

There are other things you can do however a more detailed analysis is needed. This website has some good clues.

Donald you have a lot of knowledge on these type of subjects. I am actually in the midst of purchasing a home. Hoping I can do so within the next six months. But it has been a hard struggle to bring up my credit score.

About a year ago it was at 500 now it is at 573. Thank you for your posts and information. I actually took my tax refunds and extra money from student loans and started paying back some of my debt. Which is why i am broke now!!! But I know it will pay off in the end once I am back on the right track.

Charge offs being turned to "Paid Satisfactorily" are a good thing as long as too much time hasn't past. If you have gone more then 120 days past the Charge Off I wouldn't recommend attempting to clean up your credit report unless you need a clean conscience. ;-P
