All student loans are consolidated at the weighted average that you borrowed at. Sounds like you have an older loan. Unfortunately you cannot do anything about it....it is how the system works.

Only thing you can do is pay more monthly to get the thing paid off.

I ran $40 K thru the student loan calculator. Your interest at $40k is $275 per month. Lower your principal, lower your interest.
