Sandy, do you work for Ellis or something?
Seriously, maybe you'd like to walk a mile in our shoes before you post such inane comments as you have.
All of us here that are in debt, be it as the result of payday loans, car loans, home loans, etc etc...we WANT and TRY to pay back what we borrowed...but sometimes something happens where we just can't do that immediately. Desperate times call for desperate measures and sometimes we have to resort to things such as payday loans in order to EAT.
I've paid back a few of my payday loans...but not more than I borrowed, plus the interest. And that sounds damn fair to me.

We are not deadbeats
We are not pathetic
We are human, we are learning from our experience and I think we're pretty intelligent and awesome to be posting on this forum, helping eachother out and learning, in order to better ourselves and our situation.
Apparently you don't have a debt problem, because if you did, you'd know what it was like and you wouldn't have bashed us like that. THis board is for those who want to learn HOW to get of debt and how not to repeat the same mistakes again.

Sorry if these seems harsh, to everyone one else that is reading this, but I know we try and I'm defending us and our reasonable financial statuses.

lindsey why is it that everytime someone on this post has a slightly different point of veiw they are accused of working for a collection agency or ellis?
i said before that i collected years ago for citibank so i have more of a insight on both sides of the issue. years ago folks with a different veiw point were called communist . we can all agreee to disagree and still be cordial.

The point of this particular forum is how to handle Ellis Crosby &
Associates.

People got scared when they got contact about a loan they took out, and
were told they were going to be arrested.

I've mentioned that a loan will cost $25 per every $100. A $200 loan
will end up being about $350 because they'll probably try to hit your
account 2 each pay day. $350 max. Now the interest is already in the
loan. The late fees or NSF fees are already in that amount too.

Sooo...if I got the account I would simply call up Miss Jane Doe...tell
them who I am (and that I am calling to collect a debt, and any
information will obtained to collect that debt)

Tell them this amount is due now...probably get a response saying they
can't pay for 3 weeks, fine. I'd set up payment arrangements.

Ellis Crosby was tacking on high finance fees, in some cases over $500.

People were shocked, scared, didn't go home...avoided the phone calls.

When you get a call saying you'll be in jail in 2 hours if you don't pay
us $1206 on a $300 loan....

...that just doesn't sound right!

We're all here to help each other and learn from each other, as well as
learn about the various scam companies. Not to be arguing about who's
at fault. Apparently we've all been in some sort of trouble some time
or another...that is why there's the motto live and learn.

Mistakes happen. Remember the most common mistake with these payday
loan companies where THEY GET YOU...is when they try to take their money
back on payday, but at 4AM. So you've already defaulted because your
payroll check doesn't get deposited till 8AM.

From all the previous forums and discussions about Ellis Crosby &
Associates....I think we've all learned that the investigators are
probably paid on commission, thus allowing them to add whatever they
wanted to get those fat checks.

It is a shame that we constantly have to defend ourselves because we get into financial difficulty and we are classified as deadbeats. I concur with Lindsey and Mikey and everyone else, that we are here because we want to get out of debt. We are looking for advice or have advice to offer. We also want to share our experiences so that no one feels alone in this and to prevent this from happening to anyone else.

I am sure that most of us would agree that this community has really helped us!!

I also receieved many messages from Emax from people whom I cant understand because their accent is so thick. I also recieved a call at work and when I told him I could not take personal calls at work and that I would have to call him back he kept saying this will only take a few minutes, I said again, I cannot take personal calls at work....finally I hung up on him. Does anyone have their fax number to fax a cease calling letter??
Thanks!
I already faxed a letter to Ellis Crosby, so they mustve transferred their acct. on over to new people to harrass me every 10 minutes!

Holly:

Their fax number is 732-748-4381. I would just be careful as to what fax machine you are faxing that from. For $1 or $2 I would recommend going to a store and fax it. The last thing you want to do is fax Emax aka Collectedge (www.collectedge.com) from work and they bombard your work fax machine so everyone knows your business. I just received a call from Emax again today and they are just as bad as Ellis Crosby. Just make sure that if Emax calls you that you get to talk to them on a recorded line. I have EC's message on a recorded line.

In all honesty, I have no intentions of paying anyone until I see what the outcome is from the Florida State Attorney General's office in the EC case. Who knows where the money is going to go. I can't believe I call the companies I took the loan with and they all tell me they can't provide me any information and that I can't pay them as it is out of their hands and their system. Now they keep passing bills off to other companies who are price gouging us. Whatever happened to the days when we took out $300 loans and said I will pay you a settlement of $200 and get lost? Nowadays these people are jacking up the price. So we all have to be in this together and be consistent. DO NOT PAY A DIME UNLESS WE PAY THE ORIGINAL LOAN AMOUNT. These collection companies buy these accounts for 75% of the original loan and then jack up the price for extra commissions. Here is an example:

I took out a payday loan and defaulted. The loan was for $300 - kickback was for $390. For reasons being my acount was closed and this company kept hiting my account every pay period for about 4 months (8 pay periods x $30 = $240) so when I finally hear from EC and now Emax they tell me I owe $630. They probably bought this account for (75% x $300 = $225). So now these collectors want to charge me $630? When you argue with them they make it seem like they are doing you a favor by lowering the charges $60 or $90. Try paying 75% of the original loan and no more.

I can tell you right now if Emax or Collectedge is fake. Next time they call which for most of us it will be Saturday September 10, 2005 (this is when they call most of us normally on Saturdays) stay strong don't let them push you around. Always remember you are in control and if they want to try to arrest you or take you to court then let them. We all know they never will because they are illegal.

Try this.....let's say they claim you owe them $600. Just play with them and tell them you will give them $550 right now (via Moneygram - which is collector's paradise) to resolve this matter and consider the account closed with no more phone calls, emails, or whatever. If they bite the bait - we know that we are dealing with the next Ellis Crosby from India. At that moment, hang up the phone, send a cease and desist letter via certified mail with return receipt and write the debt off for another 6 months at least.

Once you send a cease and desist letter to Ellis Crosby then will transfer your account back to the original lender who will transfer it out to another collector. You know what's amazing. It's so amazing on how the women that give you the original loan are so nice to you. In a way you feel like you are dealing with a nice company who is warm, friendly, and understanding, and then they get the men out on you to harrass you and treat you like a deadbeat. What a scams these people run. It's amazing on how that nice lady that answers the phones is nowhere to be found when you want to work with her company and pay them back.

I don't know about any of you but anyone that comes into this forum can call me a deadbeat all they want. I am still having the last laugh because I have the money right now to pay off my loans. I just choose not to because I refuse to pay prices of extortion and I have so much fun when they call me. I look forward to my Saturday call it should be fun. I know these places are a joke so when they want to agre to my terms thats when I pay until then keep the phones ringing......

You should know if any of these companies want to take you to court the judge will only make you pay the original amount of the loan. That's why they can't take you to court and that's why it is illegal. In all honesty you never have to pay back the loan ever unless you wind up dealing with a legit collector in which most legit collector's don't want to get involved wsith these payday companies to begin with.

Good Luck

Thank You Dale!
Yes, Ellis Crosby wanted $872 for a $200 loan, and Emax called yesterday and they said they wanted $715 for the $200 loan.
Unfortunately right now, I dont even have the money to pay back the original creditor, my husband(soon to be Ex) wiped out my bank acct. and put it in negative by far. So all my efforts are on fixing that!
So For Now, I will dodge all the calls, keep sending cease calling letters, and then dodge the next collectors calls....
I am not a dead beat either! Im trying to fix a bad situation dealt to me!

probably ellis crosby under adifferent name set up in another state or off shore to avoide further prosecution in florida.
A growing number of collection agencies have operations in the far and middle east. Many seems to feel that since they are located in another coutry, the protections of US lasw do not apply to them..

ERICK, comments such as yours and Sandy's are just uncalled for. "Deadbeats, druggies..." Come on, we are not here to call people names or criticize their finanicial situation. Yes, you have a right to "voice" your opinion, but your opinions are doing anyone any good HERE!

Hahahahahahaaaaaaaaaaa!
It seems Ellis or some other company has found a new medium for harassment!

It's not a "slightly different point of view"--it's rude, it's mud-slinging, it's wrongful accusations.

Sandy, Erick...all other morons: YOU do not know us INDIVIDUALLY. YOU don't know what WE went through or HOW we got there or WHAT we're doing to correct the situation.
Druggies? Deadbeats? Actually, we're just the opposite! We are the ones who are seeking a way to correct our mistakes and our situation rather than making the situation worse or wallowing in our own self pity.

And I definitely believe that we are strong enough to pass off your rude comments as crass and immature, and go on with our lives, as we see fit, no matter how we choose.
